D16Z6 turbo, or B16A2 swap?
I'll start off by saying up front that I'm relatively new to forced induction. I just got my tax return back and am curious as to what would be the best bang for the buck. Boosting my D series with GReddy, or swapping in a B16A2...can't afford the 18C1 unfortunately...
What would be the pros and cons of each?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

search.. topics been covered alot
my personal opinion, r u looking for reliability? go with the swap.. if your looking for something that is potential reliability but hella fun and cheaper, go the boosted d root.
If i was in ur case, i would turbo the d. Not only do ya get the bov sound, d- series are pretty peppy. As far as the greddy kit, DO NOT TUNE WITH THEIR MANAGEMENT!!! The blue box runs super rich. Tune with hondata /crome/neptune, whatever... THe kit only runs 5.5 psi which is good for dd but its easily upgraded with a boost controller etc.
Putting ur own kit together is also cheaper too.. but takes longer.

reading an article on D16Z6 boosting, they said you can get the best bang for the buck with a TD05H-14B which is a hair bigger than a T25. The turbo comes off of a first gen mitsubishi eclispe/eagle talon. Based on the dyno they gave 106whp (stock civic ex) jumped to 220whp with just the turbo. And the best thing is these turbos are only 100-250 dollars generally, the bad thing is finding a decent one somewhere. So if u dont feel like looking than go with a T2 T3 turbo and have a tuner tune and dyno it for you. Yea dont use greddy applications for tuning. dont forget turbo timer! good luck

i have a del sol si, went with the greddy kit on my d16 (get an intercooler). i drove it around for a few months, then my ******* mechanic stripped a headbolt hole installing some ARP studs, so i've gone with the b18c1 swap (will be a turbo soon, already bought a turbo, just need a new manifold) been rocking the b18 swap for a couple days now, and it pulls pretty hard, but i thought the d series turbo was a lot more fun.
just my 2 cents, having been on both sides.

has nothing to do with this topic.
D series turbo=more power, and cheaper than most swaps.
B series= more potential in the long run.
it just depends how fast you wanna go

so hes going to cought up $2000 for an increase of 34hp and a few ft lbs of tq.. or could invest the same amount and gain way more power and torque.
If you do go the FI route.. do your research.. it may not be for you. Lots of things can go wrong

I find myself in this same dillema. the JDM SOHC swap I bought here locally has started leaking from the front main seal. I have a spare z6 in the garage that I could rebuild and boost, but I'm thinking the equal-length driveshafts of the b-series engines would be a huge benefit in road racing, which is really what I'm interested in the most anyway. there is a BUNCH that can go wrong with boost, but turbo d-series produce WAY more torque than a b-series will, turbo or not
hm.... decisions, decisions eh? there are definitely worse things in life though, than deciding which way to do your car up

turbo d man. It has as much potential as a turbo b. and try and peice together your turbo setup using H-T classifieds and any other resource you have because that will save you money. greddy kits arent all that great for the $$$ you spend. unless you get a used one off someone cheap like I did
to add, just make sure you get a good tune. go with something like crome or uberdata. its free and good. if you got it tuned and dialed in right, it will be reliable and much faster than any b swap.

Thank you everyone for your opinions on this matter. Looks like I'm gonna have to do some pondering. Thanks again, everyone.

10psi and only 186 whp??? you're goin easy on that.
the blue box alone has seen that and thats only 5.5 psi
at 10 psi proper tuning i would be hoping for nothing less then 225whp
tell me in not being generous??

Oooooohhh!!! Cool turbo D-series way to go, save the sohc. Single slam turbo is the coolest cuz we all know a d series is the best thing since sliced bread. You can use an HX manifold and save sooo much money. Cuz you know turboing a car that was/is designed for N/A is a great idea and asking for advice about it in the 92-civic del sol forum where almost everybody has a d series in their car is also a good way to get an unbiased answer.
How bout this: nothing turbo is cheap even in HONDA's, so if cost is a major factor you shouldn't even be doing this. You should also ask in the FI forum and you will get better responses than:

Which have no factual backing other than that persons opinion.
Because if those people knew anything they would know: B16 has thicker sleeves, thicker rods than a GSR(b18c1, much thicker than a D series), the block webbing is better, the head is the best flowing aside from a Type R, and the rod stroke ratio makes it boost and rev friendly because stress on the rods is reduced, hence it has no block girdle. But shiat you should just turbo the D, to be different and special and cheap. Because those things make fast cars.
