That is the list of viable power plants that should be put in a 4g civic/2g CRX. It is listed from best to least and there are many other motors that can go in there, but are not worth the effort. H22s are too heavy, and D series (including ZC) are just a waste of time and not enough power. The good thing about d series is they are substantually lighter, cheaper, and if you turbo or super charge them, then they are viable. The h series crap is just a big heavy boat anchor piece of **** and should be avoided in all instances. If you wanna stay NA pic from the list I provided.

how much cash do you have, if you buy one of the first two choices you will allready have a great tranny with the swap. As far as ECU, if you are doing b series go OBD1 and run crome.

If ur looking for a good reliable balanced engine . . . i'd get a GS-R motor since all thats needed is basic mods on it and u'll be able to beat LS/V-Tec it self alreadyz . . also with street tires that is . .

dont say that bc lsvtec is a custom motor , everyone builds them different .
Ya if someone goes the cheap unreliable way of just putting a vtec head on the ls and there done ya the gsr will be faster . With some work to the ls vtec like different cams pistons rods , rod bolts ect and the stuff you would bolt on to the gsr the lsvtec will produce more power

so far so good. i appreciate the info everyone is offering. thanks. now i should also mention that my CRX is an automatic. Is this going to make the swap out more difficult. And how hard is it to change it over to 5speed and is this worth the $ and effort. or should i keep it auto and add a stall convertor. if anyone out there is runnin the B16 with auto tranny let me know how u did it and how u like it. thanks again everyone.
The motor I'm lookin at getting is a b16a G1...Is this a japanese or domestic motor. i've been told that the domestic version of this motor is a POS. But how do i know if a motor is JDM or not. Where would b the best place to look for finding one. I went to http://www.japandomesticmotor.com and found the b16a G1 for 1200$ and it comes with the tranny alternator, distributer, all wires, and sensors and everything i need. Does this sound like a reasonable price for all of this. seems to cheap to me but i'm not sure. Again if anyone has any suggestions on a better place to look for the b16 i'd like to hear it.

thats the mantra that has been powering my build
It is 1/3 of the cost of a b16

the Jspec d15b ur talkin about, is that a SOHC with a Vtec head. a friend of mine had sumthin like that.had the head with a vtec actuator moduale. he could switch out a chip to change when on the rpm's the vtec would kick in. is that what ur talkin bout. Where's the best place to find one and is the 130hp stock? i mean i could bump that up to like 150-170 with some motor work and bolt-ons excluding adding juice right. I'm a rookie as far as the performance scene goes but ya gotta start somewhere, so the more detail u wanna give the better. thanks
what about a b18a? i would consider that a good value, cause its relatively plug and play for obd0, and its like 140 hp out of the box, more torque, and it is very boost friendly. and they can be had at most local salvage yards for under $500, but without tranny. the tranny is the only problem, finding a good cable tranny might be pricey.
your auto to manual swap will not be too bad. you have to swap out the pedal rack for a manual one and run a clutch cable. but its something that can be done in a day if you have all the parts you need. there is a writeup somewhere around here that tells you exactly what parts you will need to do it.
