What Am I doing wrong?
hello all, Ive had a lincoln handy core welder for about 2 years, and the only times ive ever used it have been crap. It is a wire feed gaseless welder and yes i am using flux cored wire. this thing cannot weld exhaust, if i go too hot it melts right through, if I go to low it isn't a constant stream of weld its just tic tic tic and all i get are little ***** that look like sauder all over what i was trying to keep toger. this really pisses me off and i dont know what I should do. I want a nice thick weld i can be proud of, would buying an arc/stick welder help in my search instead of this shitty thing? The main thing I want to do is weld exhaust.
i bought a flux core welder a long time ago and it sucked ***, did just what you're saying. i'm no welder but i can handle a regular mig just fine and this flux core thing wasnt even close
yeah, most of the welds are big and splotchy and dont even seem to weld the metal at all. Looks more like saudering. It helps if you crank up the wire speed though, but still feels like saudering

Increase the wire speed, bring the amps up, and move faster so you don't burn through.
I too had a flux-core welder to learn on. Eventually playing around I got welds that didn't crack.
Another thing: Always point the gun away from the direction of welding, so that the burnt flux goes onto the part that is already welded.
