Use brake cleaner to clean the caliper off a little bit. That's what I did.

i painted my old ones while they where still on the car... i tappered off the rotor and wheel well (parts of the quarter and fenders too for overspray)only to expose the caliper. after the brake cleaner i sprayed two coats with high temp gloss black, then 4 coats of high temp clear, with each coat dry'n before the next. now you could remove your calipers and paint them. also once you've painted your calipers, brake cleaners will strip away the paint... so watch out.

 

use a wire brush when you clean them so it gets everything off

 

just use a rag to place around the caliper... its easy.
