Has anyone painted thier OWN CAR?
i was wondering if anayone eer painted their own car, and how did if turn out, i need to paint mine myself, after shaving the side moldings, i dont know what to do tho
You need to post these questions in the appearance and cosmetic forum. If you have never painted a car, it is not easy. There is detailed preparation work that must take place. A rattle can is going to look like crap.
Also, if you want it to look nice, your going to need a big compressor, nice spray gun (usually at least 150 for a decent one) and A LOT OF TIME. My dad and i are going to paint my car in june and i plan on taking about a week to do it. There is alot of prep work that goes into painting, and if its ur first time, i gurantee its going to look crapy. Its a lot harder than it looks.
I thought I warned you about shaving the moldings yourself? Are you going to panel paint it, which means no blending adjacent body parts for color match...are you even worried about color match...orange peel..solvent pop...runs. Once again...it takes years to learn how to do this stuff, thats why painters make 6 figures
i tried to paint an old car of mine thank god that it was a painter. bodywork i can do but painting id rather pay someone to do. take ur time, do the prep work good NO SHORTCUTS, prep work determines paint quality amung other things. be careful when you sand the car down when your done not to touch it the oil in your hands will soak into the existing paint/primer and cause you problems.
Yea i have painted my own car. After goin through months of schooling, its definetly very rewarding. I recommend doing it your self just really look into what goes into prep. Take time practicing on junkyard panels and what not. Properly preping the car before final spraying will make or break a paintjob. Also materials are very expensive. If your not patient then you probally dont want to do it. Stuff like this takes lots of time.

Yea... unless you know what you're doing... I would recommend taking it to a professional, heh. DIY is always cool as hell
But just something to consider, especially if you care what your car is going to look like in the end. Here is a picture of my bf's 4g lude after he tried painting it himself. It looks bad, he didn't care much (especially since it just sits there now) and it looks better than before believe it or not:
