why does every d16 a6 leak oil?i
i have had three of these engines. all of them leak oil, out of the oil journal side of the head, where the head meets the block.
i have replaced the head gasket , still the leak!!!! why?
is there any way to keep it from leaking ?
maybe using a d16z6 head gasket?
maybe new head studs?
deck the block?
i am building a d16a6 n/a with all new parts , a1 pistons , moly rings, coated valves
i dont want the engine to leak oil !!!!! is my point
PLEASE HELP

this leak is coming from the rear oil journal
where the head gasket should be sealing it but it doesnt
well if its not a problem with all D16a6 motors then
when i completly rebuild this motor it hopefully wont be a problem

On my car, I always seen oil where the head meets the bloock, I would say the corner of the headgasket between the timing belt and exhaust manifold. before and after a headgasket change. I"ve read somewhere long time ago that this is a defect of all d16a6's where it'll leak a little bit around the head gasket. I'm not sure how much yours leaks but mine doesn't leak enough for me to notice anything, I'm more worried about my leaky oil feed lines

thats funny I performed that service bulletin to the T without even knowing it was issued. Did it last year w/ my 40k mile D15B2 engine in my 90 dx hatch, it was starting to leak on both sides of the head where it meets the block, it wasn't bad but it was bothering the hell out of me especially because the engine code stamping was beginning to get dirty. No leaks since 1/05

obviously some engine had the problem and some didnt
so when i build my engine i will use the z6 head gasket and buy new head bolts
shold solve the problem

Honda will not replace the head gasket on a 16 year old motor with who knows how many miles and who knows what kind of maintenance it got.
Buy an OEM head gasket and new bolts. You shouldn't re-use head bolts, but alot of people do. If you re-use them I suggest you over torque them. Infact, I suggest you read up on creep failure in bolts if you reuse them.

Did you torque the head right. Torque them all to 22 lbs in the right order and then torque them down to 49lbs i believe in the right order. Also are you getting all of your old gasket off. That can cause it to leak. Another thing. Has your motor overheated bad enough to make something warp.
well the motor i have in my daily right now is crap
and probably been ran hot
the motor i am rebuilding only had 160k on it and was running great except for leaking seals and rings
plus i just found out my o ring on the disty was leaking a little and getting on the head and corner of the gasket

Make sure there's no gasket residue on the head or block before putting on a new gasket.
Don't use liquid sealers.
Make sure your head stud torque is correct and in sequence.
If you're still getting leaks, maybe check your head is true.

Did you use the composite head gasket? Did you have the head/block checked for warpage?
I never get my oil pan gasket to stop leaking. I bought an SOHC ZC last fall and swapped all the gaskets prior to putting it in. Oil pan gasket has started seeping. Not even an impact on the dipstick though so I just put a piece of cardboard in the garage and deal with it.
