Maaco paint jobs...hit or miss

Exactly. I prepped almost all of my car except for a few spots that were bondoed from the previous owner's wreck.
When I talked to the people at Maaco, they assured me that they would complete the prep work. When I got the car back, the parts I had prepped looked decent, but they didn't do anything about the bondo.
I know I can't complain for a $250 paint job, but they should have held up their end of the bargain.
That being said, Maaco is franchised, so you might want to go and check out some of the recently painted cars to get an idea of the quality. Good luck, and as stated before, try doing the prep work yourself.

i did all the sanding and filler i needed to do, part of what you pay for is for them to prep it, meaning fully wet sand and final prep for paint. but still id do as much as possable before you bring it in. basically get it to the point where all it needs is the paint that way you know they wont miss any spots
Basically the paint is just dulling and un-matched shades following my accident. I only have one dent i really want to take care of on the top of the fender. wat about aftermarket stuff such as my lip which is already painted?
*edit* by the way wishin, your ride looks nice what paint package($) did you go with?

the $250 package, poor mans haha. as far as sideskirts and lip, and duckbill ect on my car i took the lip off and told them to leave everything black that was black.
i have another friend that got his EK painted at the same place and he left his lip on and it came out great. here is a pic of that

he got the $800 something maybe more IMO it looks the same as mine. plus he paid more because he didnt do any of his own prep work
EDIT: notice how his bumper is completly red and his moldings, and doorhandles, AND mirrors. i did not want that but if you do not tell them they will paint EVERYTING i was very specific with what i wanted them to paint/not paint

I noticed the lower grill was painted as well. Did he ask for that?
I also heard they paint over window seals. I'm hoping that was BS; an all green car would look a bit extreme.

I had my crx painted there...(everett wa location) I've also had 2 other cars done by them, and several buddies have had theirs done there...
imo for the price they do pretty decent work...
the first car I had done there held up great for several years...until I sold it...who knows now...
another car has held up perfect...this I think is year 5 for its paint job...looked factory and I did 0 prep work.
my crx came out even better and was holding up perfect until I removed the body kit and went back to stock...now it needs a new paint job.
my buddies talon came out great...and has lasted just fine.
another buddies celica came out ok I think alot of that was his fault
I dont know I dont have pics this second...but just look into the shop...check out some of the cars they have done etc etc

i'd say depends on shops.. i saw some are really good. some shop really bad. my friends car was painted there. Milano Red?? no, it was Milano Orange.
it was worse than my 6 yrs old MR paint.

I had my old project car, a 75 malibu, painted by maaco. I went w/the $800 paint and paid for extra prep....don't make the same mistake as me. If you're going Maaco (usually, not always, since they are franchise) do your own prep work, don't depend on them doing ANY prep work even if you pay for it, and get the cheapest paint since the quality of the spray job determines how good the paint will look in the end. This isn't so if you are willing to wetsand and buff the car but otherwise it is usually the case. My malibu has been Maaco painted for about 5 yrs now and it still looks just as good as the first year.
They mean try to fix all the dents, rust, and primer yourself. When you drop it off, it should be ready to paint. I had their cheapest paintjob on a crx I had about 3 years ago. Make sure if you are gonna have them paint any stock sideskirts or lips, that you prep them very well, because it chipped off mine after about a year also. Also, make sure you clarify not to paint your grill, unless of course you want it painted!!
As far as side skirts chipping, you have to specify that you'll pay for the flex additive on the plastic parts I.E., bumpers and skirts, moldings and such. The bumpers do flex and without that additive the paint will chip and spiderweb sooner or later.
Im debating right now, i have a regular shop who will do the car for around $1300, or I could go with maaco, the only thing that worries me is the milano red paint, which is a difficult color, if it was white or silver id being going to maaco for sure.

Wait, wait. Primer? I can see wet sanding and bondoing my 1 dent but I have to primer it too?
