So the ricer who had my car before me painted the inside of the cluster silver. I took it apart last night to find out that its all one piece for the front. My buddy has a 89 guage gluster and I was wondering if I can take the clear front plastic part and clip it onto my 91 cluster without and problems???

I don't believe it would work.

Reasons:

88-89 cluster hoods were different from 90-91
88-89 Clusters in general were different in shape and wiring than the 90-91's

If I'm wrong on this then I should be smacking myself in the head for buying a 90-91 cluster hood for my 90-91 JDM SiR cluster because it wouldn't fit in my 88-89 cluster hood.

Oh yeah, and the mounting points are slightly different.

ur right. the plastic cover piece for 88-89 was Sqaure n not as long or tall as the 90-91. i have a 88 cluster with a 90-91 cluster cover. there is a gap. but for putting the plastic from a 88-89 onto a 90-91 cluster thats a no go.

yes thats correct... also the wiring is a lot different... i put a 89 CRX SI cluster in my 91 sedan and found out the hard way...

i did all the wiring only to find out that there was a gap on the top... doh!!
it was a learning experience though because now i know what all the wires do...

oh well, i'll be putting a 99-00 SI cluster in there instead...

so save yourself some headache and find a 90-91 cluster

That is correct.

I did the samething when I first got my 91 hb. It didnt have rpms on the cluster so i bought me a 88-89 jdm zc cluster thinking it would be a plug and play thing but like you I found out the hard way. Now im rocking a 99-00 si cluster like the picture below shows. Also "I heart My EF Sedan" i see you are in the 323 area. I am too.
