Default how harsh are 1000lb springs on the street?

i know most ppl care more about "road racing" or whatever crap you guys do...but, i can't turn..tried, ditch, didn't work for me.....but, i can go straight pretty good...

so, i'm asking if anyone's got any idea how bad 1000lb springs are for the street....and what type of shock could handle that spring rate in a daily drive situation. i'm NOT going to get the omni drag stuff...have had omni and loathe them daily (on my wrx)

i know a LOT of guys are running tockico illumina's and running mid/low 10's on them...and a few running 9's... but would illumina's work on a STREET car? anything cheaper than custom valved koni's? this is a budget 10sec build...and i'd rather not spend what i paid for the car one 1 shock (literally...i paid $200 for my 94 hatch)

um...last sentence says 94 hatch, guess i should have been a bit more clear...sorry

94 CX hatch
h2b
stripped from the front seats back
400-450whp on 93 is what it'll be running on the street

another question...this will RARELY see the track..so would the stiff springs really even help me that much from 30mph+??

I run 675lbs at the rear and 575lbs at the front on my Civic coupe and I wouldnt go any h1gher than that for the street. The Illumina wont be able to dampen those rates anyway... With those rate it gived me a lot more traction. I swithched my 350lbs that were at the rear for the 675lbs, it made all the difference.

there are no OTS dampers that i know of that can handle that much spring. you're either looking at a rebuit koni yellow, the koni 3011, or something similarly bling.

and it'll pretty uncomfortable, especially on a 2500 lb car, but only you know what you can or can't live with.

comfort is the last of my concern's...

400+whp, stripped car.....there is no comfort

and it's far from 2500lbs too...closer to 2000lbs with me in it

1000lb rear springs is unnecessary for any car that is driven on the street. The first thing to look at is the front of your car. Do you have good tires? are they wide enough? is your front suspension in order? If you don't have the front of your car dialed in and put crazy rear spring rates in the back you just end up with a car that has zero grip.

"10k" is people being lazy and not typing "10kg" which is short hand for "10 kg/mm"

the conversion factor for kg/mm to #/in is ~56. so a 10kg spring would be the equivalent of a 560# spring.

well, what's right for you is up to you but there's no reason you can't run the 1000# spring. just be careful about oversteer in daily driving conditions.

the real issue is whatever damper choice you're going to make, a pm to CRX_Lee would probably be your best course of action if you're interested in the appropriate koni shock.

I think the most you'd wanna go is 13/11. I have a lot of my guys running our 13/11 daily and it isn't too bad. Especially if your running stockers all around town with like a 55 or 60 series tire then u can drive with that setup all day long.

I didn't read the whole thread, but I am pretty sure this must be some sort of street drag car. You don't need that hefty of a spring in the rear.

Were goin to d a 13/11 setup for my buddy Courtney Green and he runs a 9.8 in the quarter.

Stiffer rear springs will aid in reducing squat, but I don't know how many people would enjoy running around on 18kg/mm springs. I've rolled around on these before (our drag coilovers in the rear, and regular 10k's in the front), and its not fun. Unless you're looking to cut down your 60's on public streets.

well....we have places to race that we do it from 35mph+...and that's where the car needs to be good at....

i'm just looking for suspension to support that

and..pls don't start saying street racing is stupid and crap like that...we hvae safe places, we have safe cars, we have safe drivers, there is NO NO NO NO traffic WHAT SO EVER if/when we do run, and we have spot cars in front and rear to make sure no cars come onto the road...and we have a total of 4 cars go out at a time..2 spotters and 2 racers...we aren't stupid.....and this is the only way we CAN race and make good money...

I will, because you brought it up. If you think you are a safe driver, and have safe cars, and really want to be sure there is no traffic or innocents in your way, and you think you are really good enough to race and win and make money, then join the NHRA. They provide an outlet for people like yourself. We've done enough street-racing bashing on this site, and thats probably why you're already defensive. But has anyone ever suggested this to you? What objections do you have to this option?
