p28 ecu with b16
hey whats up i have a 99 si. im ptuing a civic type r intake cam and my friend told me to get a chipped p28 ecu from phearable.net and that will give me some good power. i just wanted to know wat everybody thinks if it will work and if not wat ecu should i use. i also have i/h/e on the car. thankls
well just the chipped ecu isnt going to give you the power. its the tuning that you do after you have the ecu that give you the power. your going to have to run a p30 map obivelsy and you are going to have to pic what engine mgt. you are going to use weither it is uberdata or crome.
it's not any stronger or anything... p28's are just more widely available than p30's, and are capable fo the same thing when chipped, so they're cheaper.
Just throwing a chipped ecu into your car without tuning is more likely to slow you down and/or do damage then make more power. It's all about chipping the car as a tool, and using it to tune the ecu for your car.

Its better since it can be tuned [both can be once chipped], doesn't have the useless knock sensor board on it, is easier to find, and is obd1.
All obd1 honda ecu's for 4-bangers are essentially the same. Most of them can be converted in some way to support the extra features of the others, such as a p28 with IAB circuitry added on. As long as it's a chipped OBD1 honda ecu, the designation doesn't really matter.
