i've got a 96 cx hatch, its got a 13/16ths master cylinder.

when i brake, the pedal has to go most of the way down (more than 3/4) before i get any real braking power.

first i bled my brakes. nothing. then today i changed out the master cylinder. same thing.

could it be my prop. valve? i dont think so, and there aren't any leaks anywhere. theres enough braking force to stop going 40+, but there isnt enough to lock the wheels, which was easily done.

this all happened right after i finished replacing my clutch.

I would have to say try bleeding them again because it definatly soulds like have air in the system. Also check the brake lines in the front maybe u nicked one of them when u were doing the tranny swap.

 

i'll check on the front lines, but i re bled the system again. went through two bottles.

 

i think that someitmes if your pads are low they do that because doesnt i require the brake piston thins to travel more to make contact? thats what i heard but im prolly wrong

 

never heard of that, but it doesnt feel like pad wear.

its not the master cylinder, i replaced it, and the system seems to hold pressure well when i pump the brakes and hold it. as for the front lines, i did a quick once over with the tires on [but car jacked up] and no leaks or kinks.

perhaps its the brake booster, theres proper vacuum in the hose, but i didnt remove the booster and inspect it.
