ALRIGHTY GUYS. I HAVE A 89 CRX SI WITH THE STOCK D16A6 WITH 240000 MILES ON IT. WELL I DROVE MY CAR ALL DAY TODAY WITH NO PROB. I WENT ON LIKE A 30 MINS DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN I GOT OFF THEN STARTED TO GO AGAIN MY TACH STARTED TO JUMP AND MY SPEEDO DIDNT WORK. MY LIGHTS GOT KINDA DIM,WELL I MADE IT TO THE MALL AND IT DIED AND WOULDNT START. I WENT IN THE MALL KILLED SOME TIME AND CAME BACK OUT AND STARTED. IT MADE IT LIKE 10 FEET AND WAS CUTTING OUT REALLY BAD AND WOULDNT PULL ITSELF THEN DIED. WELL IT KINDA SEEMS LIKE THE ALT WENT AND WAS KINDA SURGING OR SOMETHING.

WHAT DO U GUYS THINK?????


ALSO IF IT IS THE ALT, I HAVE A OBD1 ALT CAN I USE IT OR IS IT DIFF FROM THE OBDO?

I think its your distributer. I dont think the alt would make your car no pull it self. and the tach would prob be messed up if the dizzy went. but I have no idea about the speedo not working because that is a straight cable into the transmission. so that is really funny that it wasnt working. but dizzy I would assume!

 

Sounds like an alternator to me. Just give it a quick check. Get the car started, then disconnect the battery, either the positive or the negative side, it doesn't matter. If the car dies then that means a bad alternator. Check the battery too, can become low if you have alot of electrical system running, such as amps and stuff like that. I don't know if the obd1 alternator will work. Can try it, doesn't hurt I guess.

 

wont be the dist b/c if i let it set it starts, as soon as u turn the headlights on it died like that just drained the batt. and about the speedo jumping it has a 99 si cluster in it with a electronic vss.

plus it is a beach to change the alt i dont wanmt top ut the obd1 on and it not work or fry something

 

OBD1 alt won't work.

First have an auto parts store test the battery. If it passes, it has to be your alternator. And it's not that bad to change, just have to remove the lower bracket to wiggle it out.

 

i dont think it is the batt, but it might be. i still have to go get the car

 

alrighty guys, i went and got my car. just got back like 5 mins ago. it woyuldnt start when i get there still. well i put a bigg *** batt on it and it started but lasted like 5 mins that is with the alt unplugged and the batt cable undone. it almost sounds as if it might not be the alt but something else that is draining it..

ANY SUGGESTIONS GUYS
