help! need advice on a 94 gsr purchase!
i've been looking at purchasing a 94 gsr integra in california for the last few days. i finally took a liking to one car in particular for various reasons, but i have a lot of concerns and questions. i've been dealing with a smog exempt classic car since i started driving, so i don't have any experience with modding a smog controlled car or issues associated with them. i also have some specific integra/gsr questions and concerns. i've tried searching the forum for smog data and dmv.org, but haven't had any definitive questions answered, just more questions left unanswered. i'd really appreciate any help, as i'm trying to learn a few years worth of integra experience in a few days...
basically, here is a description of the car i'm looking at:
1994 acura integra, 5sp, pdl, tilt, snrf, real type r front end, carbon fibre hood, 00 conversion all around, black on black, leather interior, fresh paint, gsr shell with jdm b16 motor, coil overs and strut bars all around, red rota gt3 rims.
i talked to the guy on the phone and obviously i'm worried about getting it smogged in california, the car being worth the price of around $6000, and the motor specifics. i was also wondering what i should look for besides checking the vin number on the car, the vin on the engine, and doing a compression check, and running a check on the vehicle history. he wasn't sure what type of b16 it was, and i'm hoping it is the 170hp version.
the car is also a salvage title because it was previously stolen, and this guy bought it to piece back together and sell. he said the car had 130k miles on it, and he hasn't driven it except in between shops since he put the new motor in.
i can probably talk him down a few hundred more, and i'm hoping to go see the car tomorrow. does this car sound reasonable? i like the car and the pics I’ve seen, as well as all the mods. i think if I were to purchase a stock gsr i would do something very similar if given the time and money.
i also have the option of registering the car and getting plates in florida, as i'm in the military and i’m moving there this month. i have no idea what the smog laws are in florida, but i'm assuming they are real lenient and they would make mods less of a headache in the future? should i even bother with trying to smog the car in california, or paying tax on the purchase via california, or should I just run screaming to the florida dmv?
thanks in advance,
DJ

these responses have seriously made me not want to deal with the car at this point. i guess i need to take more time and look some more at some other cars. i have three more gsrs i found and will do some more research on those.
