Accord dies after startup. Freak incident!!!???!!!
Hey everyone, my 2000 accord V6, with 139k miles just had a freak incident. When I went to start the car the idle didn't hold and it just died. This happened 5 times. Then I gave it a little bit of gas, and the car started to shake and died. This scarred me since the engine vibrated significantly. I then proceded to call the towtruck... right when i got off the phone I decided to give the car another shot, started it up and it the idle was rather rough but it was holding and the car wasn't dieing anymore. So I proceded to give it a little bit more gas and it smoothed out. Car was fine afterwards; I am wondering what this is an indication of. Car has relatively old spark plugs (80k miles), besides that everything is up to date. I was thinking perhaps a starving fuel pump?
i dunno about the 2000 accords but the 99 and 98 model V6 plugs are good for 8K. Check your fuel pressure or main relay.
If the condition was a short engine shut off and hard to restart; I'd say to get a fuel pressure leak down test. I've seen a bunch of leaking injectors that cause problems on a hot/warm restart.
my 2000 accord ex v6 also does that in very cold weather. i just gas it until its around 2000 rpm, then shift it into gear. after that it works fine.
Not knowing where you hail from, I'm going to suggest you throw a couple of cans of dry gas in the tank. If you live in a colder clime, and have the practice of driving around with a partially filled gas tank; you could have had some condensation forming during these spells of cold / mild weather.
You may have been sucking up some water, rather than combustable fuel.

Hmm, I should have mentioned that I am in California, outside temp doesn't didn't drop below 50 the past week. Today in the morning the car was fine as if nothing happened??!! But nonetheless it is quite scary knowing that this could happen again at a much less convenient time, and perhaps when I am much further away from home.
Thanks for the help everyone.

After 5 days of normality, Accord wouldn't start again. What is the quickest way to check if it is the FPR or Fuel Pump or Injectors. I would like to do this myself without paying the dealer $200 for a diagnosis.

When it won't start, pull off the air inlet pipe to the throttle body, spray some Carburetor Cleaner past the Throttle Plate and try cranking it over. If it trys to start, you've got a fuel pump issue; be it the fuel pump, main relay or other such component.
You've first to determine whats being effected.

If the fuel pump was actualy faulty, not pumping enough fuel in the system, would the check engine still go off when you turn the key in the on position?
I was told the check engine turned off after the pressure in the fuel system was built up, is it right?
And last question, if I bypassed the fuel pump wiring and I hear it working, is it possible that it is still faulty and not pumping enough gaz? Or is it one of those things that ether work or not?
A friend of mine's 5th gen is doing a similar problem, only we cant get it started anymore. Sometimes it starts but it dies right after.
