ok every now and again my car wont start. i'm not sure wether its the main relay or the starter. once and a while it wont crank at all all the lights will come on except for the engine, oil, and battery light i will hear the main relay click and the lights will come on. i will try to start it and only those lights will go out and it wont crank. now when i'm starting it and it does start it almost sounds as if the starter is sticking on a hair too long. could the main relay cause this?

 

it could, but most likely it is your ignition switch. The relay is being confused by a non perfect starting signal. Check it or replace it.
