Default Siping tires...

My buddy told me that he sipend his tires, where they slice the tire 90deg to the treads (something like that) I was a Americas tire and saw the banner they have for adverstisement. I thought I would ask them about it until I asked here.
How bad or good is to Sipend the tires?
I mean will they wear out faster, supposedly you get better handling and braking, but will this make the tire not last as long? Will the tire shred apart if you use them for track or strip where they are abused?

Let me know what you know or think, I am just curious on how good it may be, I don't think it can be good slice the tires and take them to auto-x or solo.

I dont know for sure, but "better handling" doesnt sound right ti me, sounds like your tread squirm would be worse after this

all siping does is cut up a brand new tire......it has no BENEFICIAL effects....they wear faster, and damage a tire.......give me $10 a tire and ill chop yours up too!

these are similar to blizzaks, or arctic alpins...
which are GREAT in the snow!
Not for summer driving, yes it will squirm on dry pavement, it sucks!
Do this for winter, or just buy winter tires!
Dont' do this to your nice summer tires.

I agree that sipes are probably intended for snow. Summer tires don't have any, so you definitely don't need them for rain.

What I have been wondering about is the purpose of the criss-cross pattern on the dry asphalt tires ("slicks") some WRC cars run. Heat dissapation maybe???

sipes are ok/good for regular passenger car tires. in theory, they help in braking/traction(wet,snow)

sport car tires, well thats just dumb to do it.

Siping is intended for wet weather handling improvements only.
Do NOT do this to your normal tires, and I wouldn't recommend it in general. Buy purpose built wet weather tires, rather than performing a ancient technique of slicing up the tread.
