Hey bud I just bought a 1999 accord and I noticed the same problem with mine. My keyless battery was bad and I thought that was what was wrong, after a trip to radioshack ive noticed that it doesnt work. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Do you actually have an alarm, or just remote entry? Both would have been Honda dealer add-ons to your LX, they weren’t standard. I *think* that they were standard for the EX.

I know that the remote entry system didn’t include the trunk opener, and I don’t think that the base alarm included the trunk opener (LX). But you can add one, cost is $25.20 plus shipping:

http://www.handa-accessories.com/accelect00.html (towards the bottom of the page)

or stop by your local dealer and get it for ~ $35 plus tax.

Genuine Honda Accord trunk opener. Replaces trunk latch, works with Honda alarm or keyless entry to remotely open the trunk. Fits 1998-2000 Not for EX models.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Here are the installation instructions:

Take a look at the installation instructions, you can tell if you already have it installed - note the diagrams on steps 5 & 9. But I don’t think you do. Note that the car is pre-wired for it.

For what it’s worth, I installed a remote entry system on my ’99 LX (from handa-accessories). I also picked up a trunk opener, but it’s still in a box in my garage – when I bought it my kids were young and liked to play with my wife’s keys, didn’t want the trunk popping open while the car was in my driveway. Now that they are a little older (youngest is 5) I probably should go ahead and install the trunk opener.

I thought that mine did not work, went back to Honda and I found out that you need to hold the button for approx two seconds or more to get the trunk to open, pretty much I hold it in till the trunk pops. It may not be the problem but that is what I do...

Yes, all EX models should have the remote trunk opener.

I just went out and held mine down for about three seconds and it popped.
