Civic Hybrid wheels - worth it?
Newbie question. Saw some hybrid wheels on ebay. Will they make much difference and give me better gas mileage? Currently I have steels on mine. Figure I would loose some unsprung weight. They are the 2006 ones.

.
are you talking about these rims?
they r off hybrid civics i didnt know they had same bolt pattern as the R's but hey that's one ugly *** rim if you ask me
but hey if you can buy it for like 10 bux haha i'd jump on it
it should save you some gas due to less unsprug weight but it really depends on how you drive your car haha
and you could look into some rotas cheap and light and looks alot better than those .

Yea those are the ones. Well figured if they go for $400 or do and I pick them up, it wouldnt be too bad with the tires on them, but doesn't look like i will go autocrossing any time soon. Well I generally commute like 60mi a day, and don't do any track time. Either way, need to check if those tires will fit.
it would help if you posted the size and offset / bolt pattern of the rims......
Fugly rims....go with rotas , which are within the same price range.

I am only guessing, but the width of those is probably something like 5" and they'll handle like crap... especially with those tires. On the topic of the tires, they're also probably W-rated (exist?) or something low since the car wasn't even designed to as fast as the ITR can in 3rd gear. Do the lugs and offset even match ITR's?
Then there is the fact that they're ugly....

holy crap they're 5 lug and in a stockish offset?
Now just confirm whether they fit over the itr calipers.
I'd rock them on a 5 lug hatch to hide the lugs and look stockish.....

I've thought about this also! I had hybrid wheels on my hatch. Dont know if the new wheels will fit over spoom clappers???
You would get no performance out of them other then they are light and prob more aerodynamic. But it would be cool. I got my 4 lug hybrid wheels for free from a friend at a dealer. Just waiting on someone buying a new hybrid and go with the optional wheels!!

The pics don't do the wheels justice. I've seen those on a car and they look very clean especially when driving down the road... they look very smooth.
I'd buy a set only to use as spare winter wheels.

Thats what I like the most about them!!!
The hybrid wheels I had were not that light. I really wanted a set of insight wheels! Those are light!

less weight will always save some gas.
Another way to improve gas mileage is get a tire with less rolling resistance (like those on the hybrid). Overinflating your tires 1-2 psi will also improve gas mileage, though it may result in adverse tire wear.

This is true. That's why I run on 4 spare tires all year round and just change them out when I attend a track event.

if it saves you gas, good. But how long will it take you until you save 400 dollars you spent on those wheels? Im just not that sure if its that practical. Although if thats what ur shooting for(saving gas with rims), do it.
It may take a while for someone that commutes a small trip. Anyways less unsprung weight will probably = less overall stress on the engine. I mean these wheels won't add on 100K onto the life of my engine or keep a head gasket from going out, but i'm sure there is a small percentage.
Like again, I do commute a lot and for the most part there's not really much excitement on the roads M-F.

I'm not sure, but it seems like the rims design would somewhat prevent your brakes from cooling the way they normally would. Of course that doesn't matter if you're just commuting in them.
