First, MSF class!

Both of these bikes can be used as a first-bike to learn on, but the learning curve is much higher.

The CBR600s tend to have failing RRs and CCTs. Those need to be replaced as needed, or you can upgrade the CCT to a manual one.

I've heard the R6 (99-02) can have tranny failures (2nd gear usually).

You've never ridden, right?

It would be similar to learning to drive in a Ferrari F40. Can it be done? Sure. Would it be easier in a car that's not so exacting of its driver? Yup.

Since you're young, take the class first. If you're still interested in riding afterwards, then consider an old(er) CBR6 or R6 (or Gix6 or Zed6...or SV650, EX250, etc etc). You want this decision to be something you can look back on with good memories, not medical bills and disability.

He means they are still high performance bikes and can still yourself in a lot of trouble if not handled responsibly.
