Starting the Mini-Me Project this week. 3 Quick OBD questions.
I'm starting a mini-project this week putting a Z6 head onto and A6 block (91 CRX SI) and I have all the tid bits and have done my research as far as parts are concerned. However I have 3 questions that I'm sure someone here can answer off the top of their heads.
First is; am I going to need electronic VSS to communicate speed to the ECU or will everything still work without it? (Only reason I can think of is high speed VTEC disabling for economy), although there's probably bunch more uses computationally (fuel etc.). Is it needed or can I use cable driven? My bet would be on getting a CEL in the least... and that would just **** me off enough on it's own. If so, anyone selling a d-series VSS? J/K! But seriously, if you do e-mail me.
Second question is; I was going to use this old school DC Sports 4-2-1 header made for the D16A6. Now there's a 4-wire O2 sensor with the OBD1s correct? Is that in addition to the legacy O2 sensor that's on pre-OBD cars (2 O2 sensors)? Will i need to get a bung put in the header?
Last question is; I have a virgin P28 ECU I picked up from rywire.com while I was getting the conversion harness from them. Now I understand there's a lot of "chipping" going on in the OBD1+ world. I've heard of ZDYNE at least for the 88-91 bunch. What are the P28 SOHC VTEC options? I plan to run this setup at stock settings with stock internals (minus the D16Y8 thin head gasket to up comp. a bit) and I have always made the assumption that chipping ECUs was only really useful to people with either turbo setups or heavily modified N/A setups. What are the benefits of chipping your ECU and should I bother for my type of "mundane" setup?
Thanks a bunch for any help! Keep an eye out for the project log which will go up when I start work!

ok.
1. no you wont need an electronic vss, i converted my car to obd1 and im still using my cable vss.
2. yes you can still use your dc header. for obd1 you will need a 4 wire o2 sensor.
3. if your motor is stock then theres no need for a chip. just leave it a virgin ecu.
