Just wondering are they authentic and do they still use them? I rarely see them and when I do they are always on older cars.

I found one for pretty cheap and I want to pick one up but if they are not authentic I don't want it. And before you jump in with all your JDM bandwagon comments and the such I want to say I don't like anything that's fake. Doesn't matter if it is JDM or USDM.

There are a couple of exceptions though.

 

I have a small collection of license plates, so when I first seen these - I had to have them. I take my plate off at every show and track event, so once in a while I'll rock this one...

It's hard to find these in good shape - it's from Omiya in the Saitama prefecture:





It wasn't in the greatest shape when I got it, but I cleaned it up and made everything work. I've heard that only senior citizens and taxi's still rock them out in Japan. The newer ones use electro-luminescent cells instead of bulbs.

ive seen them before on tokyo extreme racer zero i like them i wish they were like that in the states

 

I guess I jumped the gun a little bit and bought it anyway. I just paid for it so it isn't shipped yet but here are the pics supplied by the seller.
