Default How are stock wheel covers mounted on Civic?

Hi,

Some models of the 2001+ Civic come with plastic wheel covers over steel wheels. How are these wheel covers mounted - just with a wire type arrangement around the outside of the wheel, or do the lug nuts mount the wheel cover? And if it's the lug nuts, is there anything special about the lug nuts used? Since lug nuts normally mount against the wheels using quite a bit of torque (80 lb ft), I wouldn't think that plastic in between the lug nuts and the wheels would be a good idea.

Sorry to sound like a noobie. I'm not. I'm just not familiar with these wheel covers, and I'm considering buying a set for use on another car (Integra). I want to see if I need the seller to throw in special lug nuts or what the deal is.

TIA

i am not 100% sure about the newer civics..... i.e. 01+

but both of my 97's DD's that came with wheel covers.... the covers were held on by the lug nuts and them semi snapping onto the steelie.....

so, i would imagine this has not changed....

sorry it is not a difinitive answer for an 01+

edit: here is a pic of the lugnut....

the black ring holds the wheel cover on

All Honda Civics from the late 80's up until now have mounted with the lugnuts securing the hubcaps on. Think Acura is the same way. That's why you never see a Honda rolling around on 3 hubcaps. With Toyota you saw it all the time.

Thanks - that makes a lot of sense. The metal part of the lug nuts holds the wheel to the hub, and the black rubber part of the lug nuts holds the wheel covers on.

For a plastic wheel cover, its pretty good.

My freiends old minivan just pressed on, we had 4 differnet ones on it eventually
