Strange sounding idle, dripping from exhaust
93 Civic DX all stock -
My little hatch continues to scare me with an ongoing idle problem. The car seems to run fairly decently, and doesn't stall or anything, and not much in the way of power loss really.
The idle DOES, however sound strange. It seems inconsistent, like its missing at idle, and I for a while I've noticed a random "Poofing" coming from the exhaust. I've tried a complete tune-up twice, and no improvement. I've gotten a code 9 now and again (Cylinder position 1) and I suspect the distributor, or at least the crank sensor is shot but I haven't really tried to afford a new one.
Today I noticed something scary, however. I got out to check my mailbox with the car running, and I see that the exhaust is now not only poofing and puffing, but it now seems to be making a rattling noise, and I can see some brownish fluid dripping from behind the large tank thing (like at the end of the pipe, before the narrow end) and what looks like some rust forming.
Am I now in need of a new distributor AND a new exhaust? Just goes to show that putting off maintenance only costs you more in the long run, and I'm a poor bastard. Any suggestions/info would be greatly appreciated.
