I'm getting a GSR!!! Yeaahh!! Machine shop in FL? Searched:Quality stock GSR rebuild cost?
I'm so freakin stoked!!
I was gonna have to buy an LS because I would'nt have the flow to buy a GSR. But I'm gettin back about $1200.00 more on my income tax than I thought I was gonna get AND I sold my Mustang this weekend. I'll sell my 18's and a couple other lil things + what I have in the bank and what I'll have saved by the end of the month and by the end of THIS month, I'll be on the hunt. :>:>
Oh man, I'm so happy. I get to start out w/Vtec and build from there.
Anyway, to make this a technical post, I'm gonna end up w/a GSR that'll have roughly 140,000 on the OD (that's what I see the most of in my price range) which I know isn't alot for a Honda, but since it's a GSR, chances are it's been ragged.
SO, I'm gonna be saving up for a rebuild, over the course of a year or so. I will do it right so it will be a complete bottom end rebuild (I'll freshen the head up also). I did a search and I came up w/about $1000-1500 for a good rebuild, micropolishing the crank, balancing, honing, all new OEM Honda parts.
That about right?
Then I'll have me a nice, fresh b18 that'll last me for years and years :> Also, if anybody can suggest a shop in Florida or south GA that does good work, that's appreciated also.

When you get your Gizzer, just do a compression and leak-down test to assess the condition of the engine. If the numbers check out, then enjoy your car. Save up for a performance build while researching for the best parts that will work together to reach the horsepower goals you set. Good luck finding your ride.
Congrats on the new GSR! Is it really that cheap for a stock rebuild? I am really starting to think twice on my mild build-up...

Thats what I'm wantin to find out. I mean, from what I've read from searching, that's about what it takes for a descent stock rebuild: no performance parts.
I know there's some pple on here who's done it.

A stock rebuild shouldn't cost that much at all.. Just to give you an idea, my build for my turbo setup prolly was around 2500$, bored, balanced, cp pistons, crower rods, timing belt, water/oil pump, and way more $ in gaskets/misc parts then anyone should ever have to spend. Take into consideration the only labor cost in this was the bore/balance, all dissasembly/assembly was done by me/friends, so labor can add a good chunk to the price.
But like someone said, check out the compression, set ur goals, and go from there. If you wanna make more power theres no sense in rebuilding with stock parts, then just swapping them out down the road. Just prepare ur wallet, and make sure you have a secondary vehicle ;D Good luck, i'm sure you'll enjoy the gsr.

Well, as far as any internal mods, if anything, just b16 or ITR pistons. But if I do that, I commit to upgrading the cams, intake, I'll have to have a diff ECU, dyno time. It's not gonna be a drag car, just a fun daily driver.
But if I did that, I'd definetly have a sweet ride then. I may change my mind once I get it and drive it a while, but at the moment, I'm just pricing the actual rebuild.
I test drove a 5 spd LS and I was happy w/how it felt: And I know thats not jack compared to the GSR. I Can't wait!
And I do have a secondary vehicle, 2 actually. So a few weeks downtime won't be bad.

If your gonna rebuild, put some decent aftermarket parts in there. Then at least down th e road you dont have to throw away the newer stock parts. Just my .02
its nioce to hear that you'll be getting rid of that nasty usdm, and going jdm, good job buddy, glad to hear that
Errr, isn't the GS-R along with all integras also USDM?
Anyway, congrats on your GS-R. I have one and i love it. Just started putting some basic aftermarket parts myself.
I live around Tampa and i'm also looking for a good shop to do some work, let me know if you find one
