Default just picked up a 93 SI hatch, have some problems

I searched, and didnt find what i was looking for.

First problem is the cluster, the spedo works sometimes, and sometimes not.

now i know the solution is change it (the cluster that is), but my question is, can i swap out the milliage reading from the old cluster to the new one?

also my temp gauge is always pegged at "H" now i havent checked the temp sensor, and it has coolent. so i was thinking its either the cluster or the sensor.

another problem i found is the passenger door you cant lock or unlock from the inside, have to use key. anyone else ever have this problem? take door apart?

any input would be great.

Your not going to be able to switch the mileage reading out but you will be able to change the new one that you are putting in to be same as the old one.

I'm not sure about the temp or the door situation but, I would say take the door panel off and take a look.

I'd check the VSS before I replaced the cluster.

Does the needle sit at the H even when the car is off? Does it ever move?

Pull the door panel and make sure the rod connecting the locking mechanism to the lock inside the car is still connected. Also, the plastic peice you push to lock/unlock the car may be broken. I know both of mine are broken from my alarm actuators that lock/unlock the car.

That probally is the cluster. If you need to pick up another one I guess you could test both the speedo and the temp guage at the same time. I'd hope you could find a local member who would be wililng to let you try theirs out real quick. It's like 6 screws and you can swap the cluster out on an EK, but I don't know how much more work it is on an EG.

Also, check all of the wiring to the VSS as well. It seems like a lot of people have problems with the wiring on the VSS.

ok i was thinking about this some more, cause some times NOT all the times the temp gauge will start out at "C" then once the car is on, it will slowly rise all the way to the top.

i guess im gona check the voltage comming out of the temp sensor, does anyone have the specs as too what it should read? also the speed sensor?

am i correct that both the temp sensor and VSS go to the ECU then the cluster??

you know, i had the SAME EXACT problem when I first did my swap...gauges were all wacky and the car wouldnt start sometimes (would start about 90% of the time) Turns out it was all due to the valve cover ground. I moved from the bolt hole on the front of the VC under one of the nuts, and it never happened again . Just something to check out
