Dye Interior Panels
I am looking to dye my dash, door, and rear interior panels. They are now faded... the dash is grey so it doesn't match the black... so I figure I'll just recolor everything to a black so it looks OEM again. Any recommendations on what to use to accomplish this? Thanks!
this is duplicolor vinyl dye, i used it on my EG's armrest to test it, never got to do the whole car cause i wrecked it, but it worked great, held on through tons of abuse for 8 months

What did you do to prep the surface? Anywhere locally I can get this stuff?

I'll be using this stuff soon once I know what I need to do to prep the surface.
Deff excited to get rid of the blue int. How much did it take for that armrest? thanks

Yup I think I am going to head out today and look for some. It's so freaking hard to find dashboards and door panels black... and when you do, they are so rediculously expensive it's not even worth it. Hopefully this, plus a day of hardwork, will be a viable solution.
to prep i used soapy water to remove grease dirt and oils.
then i used CRC industrial degreaser (it eats through plastic, so be careful) i just sprayed and wiped immediately, dried and painted

You also use plain rubbing alcohol. Wipe the whole thing down really well with a lint free towel and some rubbing alcohol, use a tac cloth and wipe it down again (i.e tac it off) , then paint. Some paints suggest a plastic adhesion promoter, but if it's a dye you should be fine without it.

oh yeah, here's a pic of my dash. If I remember correctly, I did it with a Dupont vinyl dye that you purchase by the quart for use in a paint gun. I don't have the can's or the car with me at present (huge work in progress that I don't have time to finish) to get more pictures, but if you have any questions, just ask.

the two pictures below are the same as above, but huge, just to show that it looks decent.

For the kind I used, I think it only comes in qts, pints, etc. If you have a local automotive paint supplies store, just go in and ask what kinds of vinyl dyes they carry. I know there are other brands that come in aerosol/ rattle cans and they should be able to tell you what the necessary prep work is.

I took the dash out, could be possible to do it in, but expect it to end up with trash (i.e. dust, etc) in it and for it not to look as uniform.

I haven't heard of any other brands ppl use tho, so idk what kind of results it'll produce. I'm guessing you did take everything out to dye?

Look for SEM Color Coat, comes in like a 16oz spray can, the pound cans. They have it at most autobody supply shops. Go to your local jobber and see if they have it.
It works really good. Get there vynil prep too, its better to use the same product just in case so the dye doesnt react weird to some other kind of vynil prep and you have to go junk your dash.
