Default Down pipe

Im kinda a newb at cars and my brother was telling me about down pipes to get for my civic to add hp. One problem i dont know what a down pipe does!? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

yea thats a turbo down pipe

so unless you have a turbo, its only a dream for now, and thats not even a civic downpipe

guessing your bro doesnt know a whole lot?

no its i who dosent know a whole lot lol. ps i grabed a random picture off of google. and i know its a turbo down pipe but i wanted to know how it increases horse power guess i wasnt real clear

from a stock down pipe on a turbo car, its larger, less bends possibly, increased air flow
