blizzard + CAI eqipped GSR = fun fun!!
hey I live in NW ohio/SE Michigan and we had a really bad blizzard today....of course my school was the only 1 open.. on my way home all roads were covered, slush, snow all that crap.. I even went through 1' high drifts in the middle of the road.. my AEM CAI sucked up nothing! so this is only a 1st hand account for you guys who are thinking about bypass valves and all that.. they really arent necessary unless when you go fishing, you use your car instead of a boat!
if my car can go through those atrocious conditions without danger, then im sure you guys can!!
cheers!

Please do not listen to the above. He was in snow... which i pray will never be sucked through a filter. If you get water on your CAI you are screwed. Keep that in mind.
yes but popcorn is made from seeds....its just a matter of the snow not fitting and not being as much to go through the filter
it takes more than just getting some water on your filter for hydrolock, you have to get quite a bit.
There is a method of steam cleaning the inside of your engine using water being sucked into the engine.

but cant the heat of the engine melt some of the snow that might get into the engine bay or near the intake filter?
One thing that could possibly happen is the slush behind snow and water will get on the CAI. Then freeze up. I have heard stories of this happening and the car dosent get enough air and just dies. If I were you I would just get a short ram for the winter weather.
You can always get a bypass valve installed then just remove the second half and install a filter from there. Or just leave the bypass valve in there. Personally I dont have it, but I have heard of people saving their car because of it.
You can probably find a short ram for around $150 unless you find it used.

Any water in the engine is an issue...
There are several situations where water is used effectively with engines.
I stated before, it has been for many years, used as a method to clean the insides of the engine. Water is sucked into the engine and vaporized, turning into a steam which cleans the insides.
Also water injection used to cool the engine, is a fine mist of water.
