Default pissed, stumped and cold

So it's pretty chilly at the moment like 40* GA weather. Yesterday my heat all of a sudden just cut off on me while I was at the bank. Just quit working, no pop, hiss, zap noise or anything.
I've had this happen maybe like a year ago intermittantly but I didn't think anything of it. The fuse is not blown and the wiring is secure, where's my next step in figuring out how to get the fire back inside the car.
I was planning on going out tonight to celebrate the super bowl but now I'll have to throw on about 3 more layers of clothes.

When the car is warmed up -is the upper hose warm?

Try a thermostat -might have been sticky last hear, this time might have just got stuck.
Easy-cheap replacement -pretty common.

Yeah, intermittent heat is a sure sign of a thermostat going out. Not hard to fix yourself at all!

Yeah my thermostat is a cheapie that's probably a year and a half old or so. Last time it got stuck shut, but the motor warms up fine so I don't think that's the cause.
Does anyone have a familiar picture of the blower motor's wiring? ie where it gets power/ground so I can just do a temp. rig to see what's hot and what's not.

So can you verify if the heater core is warming up, or is it just the blower not moving? I'd assume that the blower is just 12v hot/gnd, I wouldn't think it to be hard ot get it right with a simple continuity tester.

is it blowing cold air, or is the blower not working?

blowing cold air- start w/ the thermostat as stated. the little wire arm on the back of the heater control is suspect too.

nothin blowing- test the control and the motor.

i agree Wisconsin sux nuts for working on cars...instead of spending all your money on your car you have to spend money to stay warm while working on your car, spend money on your car...but i usually just freeze and work on my car

heh, I had to pull wideband out the other day in freezing temps while the other car to be tuned was sitting in the heated garage.

I'm going to assume diff year blowers will work. The only thing I'd suggest is if it's for a climate control crx, get one from the same type, and same for a cable-opperated unit. I'd assume the wires are the same on the blower regardless, but no reason to chance it - we'd hate to hear you complain more about the actric temps you get in Georgia

It's wet n cold, somehow still humid.

Haha, I love this thread north v south in terms on temperature.

My friends said my car was a summer car, I disagreed and said it was a fall and spring car only, too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.

does the blower not work at any of the selection speeds? sometimes 1 or 2 will die due to a failed resistor, but 4 is no resistor. check that.

It doesn't work at any speed selection. It never slowly went out as in, only a few speeds work, I ran it at several diffreent speeds when I was in the car, too hot, too cold, right in the middle etc.
It just went out when I was idling at a bank filling out some checks needed to deposit.

JUst for the record.

It came back on yesterday while driving down the road with it on fresh air. I assume the outside pressure gave it enough of a push for the fan to come on. I assume this because when I stopped at a light it cut off for a minute or less and then came back on when driving. However, after being on a while it was able to still continue to work while sitting at a standstill.

Does this sound like it's just got a lot of crap in the air box or something? Or it's a dying fan motor that's on its last leg.

maybe loose wiring.. the air chamber should be mostly sealed off. any funny noises while it's on?

I have close to that same problem... My setting on the blower 3-4 wrks but 1-2 doesnt. So its always blowing hard (<--LOL). Ive never checked the fuses but that wouldnt cause half to wrk and not the other. Someone sd something about a resistor? Where is it, and where do you get it, and how do you fix it?

that resistor is on the blower motor housing assembly. if you take off your glove box its right there in front. its a little black thing
