Default ECU Question

I just changed my engine to a d15b jdm and I can't choose between a p28 ecu and a p08 ecu. Does it mater which one i choose or do you think they would have the same outcome, because my cyrrent ecu does not read my v-tec and its not kicking in.

P08 - best
P28 w/ P08 maps - second best

I'd say p28 chipped is better because you don't need to fudge with it to get it to run a 4 wire if need be,

guess it's personal preference. IMO the factory maps and factory programming is worth the minor messing around you may have to do to get the O2 right.
BUT if you want to tune the car in the future or even boost it, a chipped ECU is where you're going to end up anyway...

Well a chipped p28 is going to have the factory maps anyway,

I meant the little things, like the factory setup for cold idle warm up and things that havn't been figured out yet over at pgmfi.org.
Crome 1.1.9 is great and 1.2 is supposed to be even better, but it's still got a ways to go.

I spose that's always the case. I would chip with unmodified code I guess if need be. I did a p08 chip for someone who was using p28 stuff on their d15b vtec and they enjoyed it much much, so meh, he never had a stock p08 to compare to though.

I chipped a friends GSR swap with Crome 1.1.8r2 in his P72 and he complained. Mainly cold start issues and it ran rich when the car was cold.
I tried setting things in Crome to fix it with little luck. (1.1.9 is a ton better at this area)

I got fed up and put in a switch for him on J1, that way he could run the factory ECU settings for cold mornings and still run the tuned maps when the engine is warm.

My car I don't have a choice, there is no OBD1 version of the P73.

now that we have completely thread jacked this thread.... Do you know which ignition maps he used for a base map? And who did his tuning?

I think he made his own basemap, and he also did his own tuning, , so yep.
