Default 89 CRX SI WITH D16Y8 - BOGS AND STUMBLES ON ACCEL. NOW WONT START!

HEY, I NEW HERE AND I HEARD YOU GUYS ON HERE NOW JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING, LOL. SO I NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE.
OK, I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR ITS AN 89CRX SI WITH A D16Y8 SWAP. I GOT IT AND IT DIDNT RUN. I PUT A NEW ALTERNATOR ON IT ( IT WAS FRIED) , BUT I ENDED UP PUTTING A NEW EFI MAIN RELAY ON IT AND IT RAN. THE GAS THAT WAS IN THE CAR WAS PROB 6 MONTHS OLD SO I PUT NEW GAS IN IT. THE FIRST NIGHT I HAD IT OUT IT RAN FINE IT SEEMED. SECOND DAY IT WAS PUTTERING REAL BAD AROUND 3000-5000 RPM'S WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND IT ALSO LOPES ON IDLELING. I ONLY HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT FOR LIKE 4 DAYS. THE LAST LIKE 2 DAYS THOUGH THE CAR WOULD RUN LIKE ****. I WOULD TAKE OFF AND WHEN IT GOT TO LIKE 2500RPM'S IT WOULD ACT LIKE IT WAS HITTING A REV LIMITER AND LOOSE ALL POWER. THIS MORNING I WENT TO GET BREAKFAST AND ON THE WAY BACK I WAS LEAVING A STOP SIGN AND IT WOULD BOG AND PUTT AND WOULD BARELY HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO TAKE OFF SO I PULLED IT INTO A GAS STATION AND WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS IT JUST QUIT. NOW IT WONT START.
THESE ARE THE THINGS I TRIED.
- NEW CAP,WIRES,PLUGS.
-IT HAS A NEW MAIN RELAY
- I TOOK THE O2 SENSOR OUT TO SEE IF THE CAT WAS PLUGGED.
- NEW FUEL FILTER AND FUEL PUMP WORKS.
- MESS WITH THE DISTRIBUTER TIMING.
- PLUGS ARE GETTING SPARK BUT NOT MUCH
-ECU NOT READING ANY CODES AND NO CEL ON

( updated )

i finally got the car back to my house. i looked at the distributer and didnt really noticed much of a burnt smell but the posts in the cap where kinda white and had some indentation. the far left wire was loose on the igniter so i crimped that on put it back on so it fit tighter.

things i done/ checked this time
- swithced ecu's ( both pm6's)
- switched injector resitors
- clean and sanded the distributer cap
- has new fuel filter
- pump still wotks fine
- spark plug wire getting some spark
- took the cat all the way off in case it was plugged.
- tightened the loose wire on the igniter
- main relay works

when i crank the car over for awhile the car will knida start up but it just stumbles around and quits within like 5-8 seconds. i know its getting fuel and there is a strong gas smell but i think thats cause i have the cat off now. it almost seems like i flooded it like you would with a dirt bike. i couldnt find my socket for the plugs so i couldnt pull them. also i am getting my parts car tonight which is 89 crx si but withg the stock motor. the intake and distributer are the same though.

- the ecu in the car now is a pm6 which is the stock crx si ecu. i heard the d16y8 ecu is the pm7. so right now there is a pm6 running my d16y8. how bad will this hust my performance and i will have to find the d16y8 ecu to run my vtec, right?
how do i hook the vtec up?

thanks for the help!!!

Are you sure you don't have any codes? Double Check.

Did you convert to obd 2 and running a p2p with the d16y8, or maybe did you convert to obd 1 while running a p28, or are you still obd 0? Your engine management setup info is needed.

Hit your damn caps lock key.

also, when it bogs and sputters..... how long was the car warmed up before you started driving it?

how long were you driving it when it died?

sorry about thae caps.

-im not sure on the ecu yet, ill check tommorow when i get the car towed to my house.
-i only drove the car about and hour before it died. it still kinda starts up but dies as soon as it starts.
- when i checked the spark which i only pulled the wire out and checked it, i didnt seem like much. but it did spark.
- i didnt check the coil or igniter, but i got a parts 89 crx to if i need parts. its not at my house yet though.
- the car bogs even as soon as i start it up all the way untill its warmed up.

Pull your distributor cap off and smell under there. I know it sounds weird, but the coils will go out on these things and they have a very strong odor of burnt plastic~electric. Also look at the distributor cap and the coil where they are closest look for a whitish discoloration. These are all indicators of a burnt coil. You would still have spark and be able to run on a limited basis, but it would do all of the things you describe.

That just screams a distributor problem.

ok, i got the car back to my house finally. i looked at the distributer and from wat i can tell there isnt really a smell coming from it but the little posts on the cap due have some white discolor and indentations. there was a wire somewhat loose that plugged into the igniter. .

things i did now:
- sanded the posts clean in the cap.
- tightened up the wire that was loose.
- took the cat all the way off in case it was plugged
- swithced ecu's ( same one) ( no codes still)
- re tightend the plug wires and put them in 1-3-4-2 order
- has new fuel filter and pump is working

i did get the ecu number and its a pm6 for the crx si but, i have a d16y8 which i heard is a pm7 or something. how bad will this alter my performance. also what do i need to make the vtec work?
