Default Smoke out of my exhaust, im stumped

Ok, after my cars been driven for a couple minutes I start to see smoke out of my exhaust, sometimes its a bigger amount than other, and If I go on it, ill smell a touch of coolant, but there black oil on the bottom of my exhaust on the inside. and the smoke is either white or grey, I cant really tell. But a couple weeks ago I took my car to this guy, and he said dont worry about it, whatever damage is done is already done, and he thought that maybe my cat was just rly shitty, so I have a testpipe to throw on there whenevr I get a chance. but "whatever damage is done" doesnt make much sense to me.

their is a certian tempature that your cat. should operate at. Any exhaust shop should be able to point a elctronic tempature gun at it a let you know if its bad or not, with out you having to use a "test pipe".

I have catback exhaust, and I dont think the problem has anything to do with my exhaust, and I have a b16, so low miled header. . . . . I think its either a headgasket or Im leaking oil from somewhere. Or my cat just has a bunch of buildup in it. Im just trying to get some kind of better idea.

edit: I already bought the testpipe anyway.

White or grey smoke is a head gasket most of the time. You should do a compression test to find out for sure.

Check that
You can go to AutoZone and get a tool that presurizes your cooling system. It's in the FREE loan a tool program and it just fits where your radiator cap goes. Easy way to find out where the problem is at.

no it's not a free loan a tool service, you have to give them like 100 bucks and stuff just for a tool, and prices may very. it could be a blown headgaskey, or it could be your transmission fluid i believe.

if it is white smoke it is a sign of your headgasket going, or possible re reing the motor. but deff run a compression test
