Can I reuse piston rings???
I opted to put this here since the tech knowledge on this forum is better and I trust it.
Before you flame away........
I might be buying a brand new ITR shortblock and was thinking about swapping in the CTR pistons. I was wondering if I can just reuse the ITR rings since they have 0 miles and are set with the cylinder walls already?
Any thoughts?

I don't see any problem with that as long as the rings and block have zero miles.
Trey...what are you going to do with the old ITR shortblock?

And don't want to take the car apart, just yet!
Well If I do get the new ITR shortblock, looks like I'll be trading my shortblock and GSR tranny for a JDM ITR tranny with 3000 miles.
If the trade falls through, I'll let you know Kenji

I would still opt for new rings ...removing rings is a "finicky" (for lack of a better word) process and they can be easily damaged. Better safe than sorry my friend.
~Chris - who knows ...it sucks to pull the motor apart for stupid chit like rings.

What's so funny about that you atworkpostwhoringwetodd?
-Dave, who has worked more today than all last week combined..
I believe the part about you rolling my ITR in your Sentra. Stranger things have happened.
But, the part where you said you actually did some work???? C'mon Dave, we all know that is BS.
I got a new project in the works...should be fun!
Kenji - who still does not get the (insert name here) - (insert clever phrase here) thing.

I have taken out a rod/piston/ring assembly after it has been installed just to make sure all of the rings were clocked just right. Does this mean the motor will never seal or will never run right?
NO it does not.
I have done this a couple of times just to make absolutely certain that I did EVERYTHING right. Both of the motors I have done this on have turned out just fine. One went 12.90s in a Civic coupe and the other went 13.4 @ 106.7 on 13" street tires (not extremely fast by today's standards for a B18 but still good). They consumed little to no oil and ran very well.
Sure you could mess up the rings when you take them out. But, I will bet you that you are more likely to mess them up putting them in than taking them out. Those that have built a few motors know this.
Trey, trust me on this one. Just be very careful and you will be just fine. Good luck and sell me that ITR shortblock for $5 please.
