Default ITR Warmup Time? VTEC?

I have a 00 Black ITR and it seems like if I dont let the car TOTALLY warm up (temp needle slightly to the left of half) that when I get into VTEC it throws the check engine light. I let it warm up for a good 10 minutes or so but is that like yours as well? When I take it into Acura I am told all sorts of things like it was the VTEC Solenoid (first time) then it was low oil (oil change performed by dealer 1000 miles ago) and I'm waiting for them to tell me what it is this time...any ideas?? I drive the car hard but I have NEVER abused it.

Then dude, let it warm up, plain and simple! Parts are cold, fluids are cold, brakes are cold, tires are cold, etc. Getting frisky at less than optimal temps is not smart, no matter what the car.

It needs to warm up first because oil pressure needs to get up, engine needs to be warm for things to rev high also.

ALWAYS wait til the car is warmed up until VTEC.

Well I never had the check engine light turn on when the eng is cold. I know for a fact that VTEC simply wont turn on (but no cel). What code does it give ya???
I would agree with cold... just let it warm up

I let it warm up the vast majority of the time

I have no idea what the new code is this time

I'll wait for them to clear it and give me the code and i'll let you know

VTEC turns on whenever I have hit the CEL so I know its not THAT cold...and cold is relative..I live in So Cal and the car is garaged and kept for...just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem ever?

The reason I'm asking is because it seems to cause a different code each and every time it happens

jeff,
the car has to be at full operating temps w/ proper amount of oil for the VTEC to engage.

yshi - who knows when Jeff's car is at the dealer

I thought it was related to coolant temp.- I could be wrong though. VTEC won't engage until your coolant reaches a certain temp.

Idle and enganging of vtec is based on the water-temperature.. I had to learn this while tuning the power fc..
No problem to let vtec engange at 70° Celsius but hey guys, I have never tested out the point from which on vtec engages.

As a basic: keep the revs DOWN as long as the car idles higher than normal (850rpm in most cases). The engine won`t idle at 850 before temp has reached it`s optimum. Take it slow until water temp is 82° C.

Yup the black ones do that. Honda did a release note stating that the color spectrum interferes the RF emissions of the VTECH controller at low temperatures. J/K.

Seriosly though the ITR burns lots of oil while your in VTECH. Check it weekly. Also as said before let it warm up. Mine doesn't give a light but it will not do VTECH when it is cold. Think about it this way, would like to be woken out of a dead sleep and run the 100 yd dash?

Will
-who does not rev over 3,000 untill the temps are at normal and won't move untill the idle is below ~1,100 rpm
