Default Best T3/T4 for my new SOHC setup? *searched*

I've been researching what turbo to get for my new SOHC setup. I currently have a D16Y8 with a greddy kit @ 8 psi. It's time to upgrade.

I will be purchasing a ramhorn manifold here shortly, and I already bought a used Tial 35mm WG. Now the big decision is: What turbo do I buy?

I've done a good amount of research, and I'm down to two main selections.

1.) The guy who's selling me his ramhorn manifold has a Precision SC50 .48 a/r he's offering to sell for $500. It's in mint condition, and only has 1,000 miles. I was pretty set on getting it, until I started shopping in the Forced Induction sponsor section...

2.) I had no idea that Garrett T3/T4e's were going for $560 shipped brand new!
The price is VERY tempting, because you can't really go wrong with a brand new Garrett turbo!

Now, the first question is: what do I plan on using my car for? It's my only car, and it's my daily driver. I plan on revving to the limits of my stock head (no more than 7500rpm, if that), and I'm looking for around 320-350whp @ 19-20 psi. I know I know, I can get a SC61 and run 5 psi and make 250whp, but I want a killer powerband and bang for my buck.

Which trim Garrett turbo would be best for my setup? The Precision is basically a t3/t4 50-trim, so my options from Garrett are:

1.) 50-trim, .48 a/r
2.) 50-trim, .63 a/r
3.) 57-trim, .48 a/r
4.) 57-trim, .63 a/r

Recommendations?? Thanks in advance

EDIT: Here's a comparison pic of what I'm coming from (right) and going to (left)

The 57 trim .63A/R that I have in my garage would be the best.

I don't want to deal with online purchases if I don't have to.

3.) 57-trim, .48 a/r

it will lag a bit but the top end

if your going with a .57 trim look into a higher redline around 8k at least

Alright, I think I've narrowed it down.

I'm probably going to buy this SC50 locally (if he wants to get rid of it), and if he doesn't want to sell it then I'm going to buy a Garrett T3/T4e 50-trim .48 a/r turbo

Thanks everyone!

.54? never heard of that....thats a ***** turbo compared to a 50 trim t3/to4e BTW I used to have the same one with a .63 turbine and it was really flat up top on my Z6. great for auto-x sucks rowing through the gears.

i suggest a t3t4e 57 trim. &lt;--- the turbo i run

i was told the spool time between a 50 trim and a 57 trim isnt that bigga difference (~1-200 rpms), but the 57 trim will make ALOT more tq.

i am stuck on which turbine size would be best for you.
i currently run a .48 housing.
at 25 psi the boost comes on strong and 25 psi is spooled by 5200 rpms (log manifold, 2.5 DP, 6000ft altitude)

if you are getting a equal length manifold (thatll help spool time) i would think a .63 would be good for for you.

i have only talke to 1 person who has used a e57 on a sohc.
jeff evans tuned one on the FR "pinks" car.

here is what he said we i talked to him about switching from a 48 housing to the 63

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

I would imagine that you are easily doubling your exhaust backpressure compared to intake manifold pressure with that small of an a/r. Most ppl dont realize that letting the engine breath is far less stress on the engine, even with alot more power. At the very least you should get the .63a/r housing. On the FR car we were getting 30psi by 5500rpm with a manual boost controller. With the .82a/r boost was coming in around 6500rpm...which was way to late. The zex cam spool the turbo about 500-600 rpms sooner, as we added about 30-40 ft-lbs in the midrange and about 20whp on the top end over the stock y8 cam at the same boost level (18psi). The cam and exhaust housing upgrade should easily get you into the 400whp range with a little more boost and meet your spool requirement.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

i wish i could help you narrow it down alittle more for you,
but i am stuck ub the exact position as you are.
i dont know what turbine housing to get

BEFORE YOU BUY,
pm HT user name TurboElements.com
i looked for ~ 2 weeks for the best price, NO ONE could beat his price, and he has them in stock

tim @ TurboElements.com

btw, nice pic
how about some credit

good luck.
please let me know if you get a 63 housing, i would kill to hear how spool time is on it

but traction is hard to come by in 1st through 3rd.
power is good but if you cant make it stick ,its worthless, just something to think about

thanks for the credit
