It can be done, but modifying the existing harness and using a premade adaptor is really much easier.

I will do it this way. I think we just do it the standard way and then wire around the resistor box, the instructions are in the archives somewhere.

has anyone personally done it that could give a heads up as to any complications in doing it. i can get my hands on the harnesses really easy as all of my friends and i have eg's and have a few parts shells laying around. i always wondered if it possable to fab up the clutch pedal to accept provisions for a hydro clutch. if thats possable are the trans mount brackets swappable between a cable and hydro trans. if not no big deal i'll stick with the cable.

the reason i'm asking all these seemingly retarded questions that i just picked up an ef after about 5 yrs of messing with 5g's and i forget damn near everything about this chassis. i couldn't resist i still have a soft spot in my heart for the 4g's and finding a descent shell in PA without rust holes for a buck fifty is damn near unheard of. down side is its an auto w/ a blown motor.

i want to go as cheap as possable as i have all these 5g parts & so my funding can go torwards the main project - eg with an IPS k24 frank.

I think you can stay hydro for a 150 dollar mount kit or something, dunno about mounting the stuff for it though. The thing about not using an eg engine harness is that it will not plug up on the dash side at all.

thats one of the things i was scratching my head about. i thought about changing clusters. if i use a hydro tranny it should work. the only hyrdro conversion i've seen was still using the cable to a mechanism on the tranny. is there a different type now-a-days? i think im gonna pull the pedal assemblys on both to see if its possable to fab that part up. making the rest work should be easy after that.

another thing off the top of my head would be the headlights. as the eg has 1 bulb and ef has 2. shouldn't be that hard to figure out though. i'm thinking thats the only splicing that would have to be done. besides changing plugs for other bulbs and such.

Trying to dick with the big chassis connectors would be a bigger hastle IMO. Plus you can migrate it to another chassis with little effort if you merge the two. I just swapped connectors, lengthened wires, and added connections where needed using stock dpfi harness as the base, and the obd1 civic harness as the donor. Much easier, straight forward - and looks very oem.

As for the VSS (vehicle speed sensor), the cable cars usually had a cable VSS, and the newer models had an electronic VSS. I think that some people have used the electric output for the cable VSS (follow the yellow brick road...) and made an electronic cluster work. I know that the stock cluster outputs the VSS signal, since the obd1 ecu I have datalogs the correct speed. If you want to go the easy route, just get an electronic VSS off a newer car, run the wires in, and be done with it.

About the hydro swap - its been done, but its usually not pretty (lots of time and welding). You could just use trans mount from a normal hydro-b-into-crx kit, since I think the hydro b-series and d-series trannies use the same trans mount. The way I was planning on adding the clutch cyl by using one from a prelude. It would mount inside the car onto the top of the stock pedal lever. The real problem would be the lines. You'd have to bend up a bunch of sections and make a bunch of flarings, which isn't easy to make w/o any experience.

can anybody confirm that the hydro b and d series trans mounts are the same. something tells me they're not. i'll search for pics and compare i guess. i got a handle on the clutch pedal and line. that shouldn't be a problem.

if they're not the same i don't know how i feel about fabbing that up. i could probably handle it though.
