Should I run 215/40/17's on my 5th gen lude or 215/45/17's????
What are the pros and cons of each?

Do the math.

40% of 215mm is a 86.00mm sidewall.
45% of 215mm is a 96.75mm sidewall.

Your overall tire height will differ by approximately 21.50mm or approximately 0.85inches

Or your vehicle will sit about 0.43inches higher.

215/40 is the recommended size. 215/45 would have a larger side wall, and overall diameter. which would also throw off your speedometer, odometer, and your gearing will be slightly different too, plus i think you would run into rubbing issues. i have 205/45 and they feal really good, if you'd like to try that size out too.

A 215/40 will throw off my speedo ect. as well. Everywhere I go websites claim that a 45 tire is what I "should" be running with a 17inch wheel.

What exactly looks dorky about this wheel/tire size combo?

I would go with the 40 series to keep as small of a diameter as possible.

I thought you were asking how it'd look on a prelude?

It doesn't matter what car you put it on a 215/45/17 tire/wheel never looks "goofy" that's my point. Just keep telling yourself that .4 inches of sidewall difference will make a car look "goofy"

be on the goofy part. wouldn't the 45 allow better ride comfort and less chassis warpage knowing that the prelude is a rigid car to begin with........anyhow the larger diameter wheel will give you a better 1/4 time. In other words shorten your gear ratios.

Ok. Go do what you gotta do then. But I'm telling you, I've tried that combo and it looked goofy. Maybe my car was too low. I guess if you're car is almost stock height then a taller tire would be better for you.

I run 215/45-16's now w/Eibach Pro Kit 1.3" or so on Tokico Illuminas. I have about 1 finger gap.

Yep. A thicker sidewall would make the ride more comfortable. Having a small sidewall and a good suspension is kinda counter-productive........

215-40-17 would be closest to the stock diameter.
