Rebuilding a H23
What can I upgrade while the head is apart that will give me some performance gains without having to do anything to the bottom end or cause me to have to buy a new ECU or chip it? I'm on a budget build so I dont want some insane setup just something better than stock but not crazy to the point of having to invest $600-1k more just to accomodate the upgrades to the head. Thanks for any input
So far I am getting new valves/springs/retainers, want a set of cams but unsure what to get without needing to chip the ecu or mess with anything else.

New as in OEM or aftermarket valvetrain?

High compression aftermarket valves, port and polish, tighter vlave lash, thinner headgasket, maybe advance the distributor a little bit. I would say install H22A1 pistons but you said that you didn't want to touch the block. Any major cam upgrade will require a retune. As it is compression and a header are your friends.
