Ok I dont need a lot of detail but I have 3 questions:
1. When seperating a tranny from an engine, does anything special need to be done other than removing the tranny bolts and pulling the tranny off? What about installing the tranny on a new engine, does it jsut bolt right up?
2. What is the easiest way to remove the pistons with the head off? Do you pull the piston and rod out thru the tup of the block or thru the bottom?
3. I want to double check my LSD, once i have the tranny off of the block, how hard is it to get to the LSD? I have a obx lsd, it is quaife-style as far as install goes...
thanks

1. You'll need to remove all electrical connections on the trans (VSS reverse lights) and shift linkage.
2. Yes pull the piston out the top of the block.
3. You will need to remove both the main shaft and the countershaft of the trans to get the diff out.

1. Strip the tranny completely while its on the motor. Make sure nothings attached. Then start from the bottom up taking all the bolts off. Put a pillow or something soft under the tranny and when you pull it free from the motor just drop it on the pillow. It helps alot if you have the starter off.
2. You cant pull the pistons from the bottom only the top. When you disassemble from the bottom remember what color code the bearings are so you could put them back in the same way.
3. I hate transmission work and so will you after you do that.

can you elaborate?
Thanks for the ehlp everyone, seems like the process is pretty straightforward. I am getting new bearing for the new build so do i still need to pay attention to bearing codes in disassembly?
Also for the pistons removal, i have aftermarket rods (crowler) can i still just pull the pistons and rods out thru the top?
LSD removal sounds a bit tricky- ill make a new post for that once i got the tranny off
