Default Cam swap question

I was reading on here the other night, that if you put an si cam into a d15b2, you can get decient gains, i was wondering if anyone had anymore info on this, also then if you could put a stock cam in a d15, you could put an aftermarket cam in one? Most of you are probably wandering why i would want to put money in my dx motor, well its because the engine i was building got stolen from my storage shed, so i am going to do a multi-port swap etc. just seeing what kind of gains i can get from this engine, thanks.

A cam is one of your best power gains to make but I don't really know what options you have for the DX, I would be suprised if it's even worth it on that motor. probably would just be a waste of time and money IMO. D16s are not that much and provide much better potential in the SOHC department

Putting an si cam in the d15b2 motor raises the peak power and gives you maybe 5-10hp if you're lucky..Look into a sohc zc cam, you'll see more hp gains..But youll have to do the mpfi swap like you said and get a better ecu to feel it..

hey, the other day I was thinking about doing a similar thing, I have a friend with a HB, it's got a D15 also, probably a B2, but I'm not sure, anywa, I have a D16Z6 head, and was thinking about hooking him up with that cam, would he see any power gains? Also, which cams would be better, I I'm gonna be putting a Y8 head on the Z6 block, because the Z6 head is messed up, before I go giving away a Z6 cam, which one would be better, or are they the same?

You cant put a vtec cam into a nonvtec head..The vtec cam has 2 sets of profiles and the nonvtec cam has only one set..

On a realated note I was told that unless you have done MPFI it should be put off as you lose a good deal of low end from the ECU

Can this be confirmed?

yeah..the dx ecu is made for the dx cam..so putting in the more agressive cam you will lose low end power and since the dx ecu is setup for the dx cam and not for the xx cam you will have an unmatched setup..The dx cam is so flat,,all power is down low..Its funny though how these little motors make almost as much tq as hp..And the HF actuallu makes more tq then hp and peaks at only 3000rpm..

If you are looking to get power from your stock d15b2 and dont want to swap the engine out. Get the SOHC ZC cam, get a pm6 ecu (pm7 if you can), Si transmission, and y8 intake manifold with LS throttle body.
