Default Turbo

I have a 97 integra type r. I was looking to put a turbo on it. Which turbo should i go with that is realiable and not more than 3500 on a kit? Or should i go with buying parts individually? any suggestions?

What # is your 1997?

There are a few of us here that have had or currently are turbo charged. This is including myself.

I'm sure Chris F, Jordo, Dr. Pooface will chime in soon. I'll respond when I get home from work.

Welcome to the boards!

Oh yeah...post pics of the R!

I suggest you weigh out the costs and benefits of turboing your ITR. If $3,500 is your budget prepare to break it in the near future.

if your budget is $3500, id save giving your money away to a shop and just go ahead and take a sledge to your motor! At least that way you can start on the rebuild you will have to do eventually. Best of luck with your decisions.

A simple DRAG kit a low boost would do fine on a stock motor. Tuning is where the problems arise. Choose your engine management wisely and talk to a shop you know and ask thier opinion.

Good tune = safe, healthy motor / Bad tune = blown motor eventually

Your $3500 budget will be broken quickly.

Virtually mutually exclusive!
Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

Search for posts by me, Dr. Pooface, itr206, etc...

Buy a boosted R. Sell your car. That's the cheapest way in, if you really want to go there.

What do you use the car for?

$3500??? lol

Buy a civic hatch and boost that.

If you can properly boost an ITR for under $10,000 you've won.

My car has been boosted for nearly 2 years. Still running strong *knock on wood* Wastegate is only set at 0.5bar. Compression lowered to 8.6:1 (Blitz 3mm). I believe its in the tuner and how hard you drive. Personally, I hardly drive my car hard as well as the previous owner.

FWIW, another block is already being assembled for me, just in case.

I think you could do a Turbo for $3500 if you do all the work yourself and get used parts. The biggest expense will be a good ECU and tuning.

Cheapest way to make a stock ITR bottom end more reliable for turbo is a 3mm headgastket, adjustable cam gears, and a good tuned EMS. Depending on your driving and how often it will last alot longer than just a stock motor. Jeff Evans still runs his stock GSR motor with that setup at 354whp and it has been running for 3 years, and it is drag raced often.

IN all defense, Jeff hasnt driven that car prob since he dynoed it years ago and didn't drag race it often at all. Maybe once.

I will agree on the rest though. Get a thicker HG and some good tuning. Or keep it stock and even better tuning
