Home Theater Experts...Need Help!
i am new to the home theater scene and just got my receiver and dvd player. i have an up-conversion dvd unit so i know i just hook the hdmi cable up to the tv. what i dont know is how to hook the dvd to the receiver. do i just hook component wires from the dvd to the receiver or do i have to hook the composites, components, s-video, optical audio wire all in? i have no clue what to do. much thanks
i dont belive you have to hook any of the video up to the receiver if you're using HDMI straight to the tv. I would only use a digital coax cable for digital audio from teh dvd to the receiver.
I agree. By far, your best picture is available going straight from your dvd player to the tv. Just use your receiver for audio.
The receiver has that connectivity, just in case you're connecting multiple sources to few monitors. Most current tv's, projectors or monitors have multiple inputs anyway.

thats not always true. Some receiver's have video scalers so if for example you have a normal dvd player with progressive out but its limited to 480P output and you feed that to a receiver which then scales it to 720P while it may not be drastic, there will still be a slight improvement in the picture quality. Also if you have a quality receiver/preamp, the losses in picture quality will be a minumum.
to the original poster. what kind of equipment did you get?
