Default Guess what I bought...

The '95 Neon now needs a complete engine overhaul. Now that I can't use it as a daily driver to work because of this, I had to do something. After spending over $800 on a rental car for the better part of a month, I started looking for new car as I was planning on getting one anyway at the end of the year.

I looked at alot of cars in the $13K-18K range and ended up with this -

It happen to be just taken in as a trade in at one of the dealerships my stepfather works for, that happens to be owned by the same company that owns the dealership he works at. (if that makes sense...)

$12,356.30 out the door....$1,000 down

I stole these from the Auto Trader web site, as the car was just put on there hours earlier.

I'll take some better pictures today because I finally have a day off!

I'll try and prep the '95 for Street Stock anyway. Now that its not moving it makes it alot easier actually.

This car will get it share of mods, but I'll be happy with some mid 12's which is easy to do with Stage 2 and 11's with a shot of nitrous. That is the short term goal, remain my realiable but FAST daily driver.

Enjoy!

you gotta like the numbers the SRT-4's put down, but I have wondered about the reliability??? sounds like you guys have some faith in them, are they decently reliable?

Yeah I didn't like the grill work at first but its grown on me. I just need some wheels to complete the look, the stockers don't cut it.

Money it tight right now I have so many thing to pay and save for the SRT-4 is going to have to wait until my 2nd job stablizes enough to where I can spent money on both.

That being said, I ran it at LACR last night and got 14.6@94 from it, backed up by several 14.7's and 14.8's as I was still learning how to drive it. Best 60ft of the night was 2.02 on the BFG's@30psi hot.

Now I want to make more power and work on the suspension some more to hold it.

Problem is money, Stage 2 with full upgraded exhaust runs about $2100, which isn't bad for a 40-50hp and 45-55lbs gain on Cali pee water, hit the HOM switch and its about 260-265hp/270-280lbs at the wheels on 100 octane, but some people are getting it to run on 91 octane + water injection with a 50/50 mix.

I'm prolly going to start with Stage 1 and the MP Blow-Off valve. To really make the daily driver theme stick, Im not going to fool around with Map Clamps and Adjustable Wastegates to try and make more power. I'm calling it the "tweaker" method.

Alot of stock turboed SRT-4's putting down good peak numbers, but nasty under the curve were the Mopar tuned upgrades is killing them, plus you have stock drivablity and you can't beat that, no matter how many band-aids you stick on the car.

So I'm thinking -

Stage 1, BOV, CAI, Full 3" Exhaust from the o2 housing down, Energy Suspension Motor Mounts and some BFG DR's on PT Steelies.

For the street, I'm mulling over some replacement 17x7 wheels. Something decent looking as many of the "tuner" wheels out there weigh less than the stockers (23lbs) anyway.

It should run 13's in this configuration based on my intial numbers.

If you see me at LACR, holla at me....

Ah, every so often you hear about something.... SRT4FGURL made about 230 drag passes before she lost 4th gear in her car. If your a road racer, there some minor suspension issues to deal with. Sndyer Racing that runs one of the two SRT-4's in SCCA World Challenge has had to overcome some problems, but under those conditions the driveline hasn't failed once.

Its also won its class in One Lap of America two out of the last 3 years. So in my book its a reliable package that can take a beating if that's your thing.

I think this car will see weekly track duty, right now drag racing. Maybe some time trials when I go further into the suspension. It just has springs now, by whom I have no idea. When I get it on the lift we'll see.

I totally agree, I think the Mopar Staged upgraded are plenty. There's two what I would call Stage 3R + cars that run low 11's. One with a built block, ported head and cams and the other with shot of nitrous oxide. Both have trapped over 127mph, so its just a matter of getting good track conditions or working with the suspension more on both cars.

I'm going to start with Stage 1 due to budget concerns but when the money is a bit more free-flowing, I'll go Stage 2 with some nitrous and that should prove interesting..

RevItUp just came out with some traction bars for it, I'm going to have to look at those...

Alot of people spend the money under the hood only and even get crapped times on otherwise great tires. Sorry but 1.97ft on M/T or M&H DR's is not good... and anything less than high 1.60's on pure slicks is poor as well, but alot of the higher HP cars do just that. I think that will get sorted out a bit more this winter though. The 2 quickest cars at this point are in Az, so I have feeling one of them will hit the 10 second barrier first.

Here's a vid - http://members.***.net/eguzek/Chris_1102.wmv

11.02@125+mph

I thought I was going to get some motor mounts, but the money ran dry today, so I can't order anything until after payday. But yeah its going to get the once over on the suspension, I expect nothing less than 2.0's on street tires maybe the occassional 1.9's to consitant 1.8's on DR's and 1.6-1.7's on a 24.5" tire, its in the car, just have to find the correct suspension settings to get it done.
