No Second Gear (Automatic)
I bought a used 1988 Accord about 3 days agos. Probably didn't check it out as well as I should have (serves me right), but I noticed after a day or two that it seemed to have problems going from 1st gear to 2nd (I thought is was just no power). After some troubleshooting, I realized that when it is shifting up, it goes from 1st straight to 3rd gear. I tried shifting it into the the manual 2nd gear, but when I do, it is like it is in neutral, i.e. step on the gas and it doesn't even move. Both the D3 and the D4 do it. Could it be something simple like a stuck valve or electrical? Please tell me it is something simple, pretty please?!
is it a V6?
expect to pay about 3K to fix that thing. I bought a used 1998 accord coupe with a V6 and I had to replace the trans at 89K. ur clutch packs are gone most likely due to a bushing failure in the main shaft.
I rebuilt my trans and I know it is a good car for 6K plus 3.2K for the trans for a total of 9.2K which is about what it is worth
i have a LX V6 and all i gotta say is wow engine performance is amazing.....

The 4 bangers have tranny issues also. Take it back to where you bought it from and have them fix it or get your money back. If they did not disclose this to you at the time of purchase it would be illegal. Take them to court if necessary but hopefully it won't come to that. Did the sale price seem like a "really good deal"?Good luck.
If your efforts to return the car fail, I would suggest having the transmission power flushed. BG Chemical Products has both the chemicals and the machine to do the job. I want you to know this right up front that this is the automotive equivalent of Doug Fluties' "Hail Mary" pass for Boston College.
No movement in manual second is not good.
I can attest from personal experience (However) that my '88 (which still does yeoman's service) had almost identical problems (1st only / no upshift) and a flush took care of it.
62,000 Later, we start it once a month (without fail) and put 70m on it.
On the terribly inconvenient chance that the flush doesn't address the problem, all is still not lost. You can find all manner of used transmissions for that car. Auto recyclers have so many, they trip on them. At 07:30 in the morning, my somewhat foggy memory tells me trans from '86 thru '89 will fit.
I know this isn't very encouraging, but I hope it helps.

i'd say with all of the 6th gen issues, skip straight past flush and go directly to tranny shop for inspection. Fron the time 2nd starting acting like his did to the time there was no more 2nd gear at all was 100 miles. If you just bought the car and the dealer is reputable he should take care of this for you.
The guy I bought my car from said that he sold it to a couple and the very next day the trans went out. He took the car back and gave them another accord. I told him straight up that I would take the car off of his hands for $6K. At first he was relucant but when I had him call around for a tranny rebuild on a accord V6, he changed his mind pretty quickly once he realized that the min was going to be 3K and most likely it was going to be closer to $4-5K

do you hear or heard any kind of shuddering noises when car was in second at all ?? those tranny had a big issue with 2nd gear clutch pack cracking ,,,,,,,,,Do a flush first as adviced by the ever realiable Mr P_.. and see how it goes after that ..
