damn parts stores and no answers
okay i have a b18a1 swapping in and the thermostat housing is off i bought a new thermostat and the gasket that goes on the thermostat itself...
is there an actuall gasket that goes between the housing lid (the part that comes off to get at the thermostat) becuase i can't remember if i scraped it off or not... also it seems liek there has to be and everytime i go to order it they say they can't get it or they don't know what the hell i am talkign about
i have been given the INLET water gasket twice, the ring gasket on thermostat once and numerous people helping me ... i just wanna know...

The thermosat has a gasket itself. The gasket goes around the thermosat, then gets installed (in a particual way, you should see 2 alignment points).
The gasket is a rubber gasket. If they dont' see if for your 1990, tell them to look for 1994, or 99 -same gasket. I alway thought they should come with the thermosats -but they don't.
If your parts store in the area suck that bad -I could send you one if you pay cost of shipping and part -but that would be to help you out -try to get to the parts store again.
BY THE WAY -you should always keep onto your old parts until at least the job is done. You would have then been able to walk into the store with the gasket.
Good luck

so there is only one then? the one that goes around the thermo. itself... there isn't one the goes between the housing and the cup that the hose hooks to?
Correct, just one around the thermo
Nothing for the housing it self, the one around the thermo seals it all.
Sorry, I missed where you said you got that one gasket.
Yeap, that is it. Put it in properly -you should have no leaks.
