hey all i have a 91 honda accord and i blew the tranny...
i just got a new tranny for it and i was wondering if i could unbolt the tranny from the engine and drop the tranny out alone, or do i have to drop the whole engine out.

You don't need to remove the engine, The trans will come out the bottom, you might want to remove the radius rod from between the lower control arm and the front subframe. Unbolt the flexplate from the TC and the trans housing bolts.
It would be worth the $$ to have a service manual on hand

If it happens to be a manual transmission, be prepared to multiply the &^%*$ by a factor of 10. If a manual trans, you'll need a Clutch alignment tool, something to support the weight of the transmission and a second pair of hands to help line everything up.
In truth, the procedure can be done either way; Tranny by itself or Engine/trans together.
Surprisingly, for the uninitiated I too suggest pulling only the tranny. It may involve way more swearing trying to put it back in, but you don't get involved disconnecting stuff you've no idea about.
I pull them both. Probably because I've the tools and the tranny jack (makes it real easy).
Do yourself a REALLY BIG favor and purchase (if you haven't already) a good shop manual. It sounds like you're jumping in with both feet.
