as i always got yelled at when i first asked this question. Depending on where you live and the regulations of SMOG if you have to do it how do you want the head built for, boosted or na. Do a little reaseach take some opions and go with it. I like toda/crower head setup good luck on the head job

I know a few people that have had success with Omni valvetrain and Blox Bs on their stock bottom ends for quite a while. There is another R down the street from me with a hair over 200whp stock bottom end with Jun valvetrains and III's.

I would leave the stock ports alone unless you're taking it to a VERY reputable person.

I'm in the middle of a build also... just did Skunk2 pro2+ cams, golden eagle cam gears, with supertech springs & retainers. I'm a painter and don't know too much about engines so I was asking for advise also... I kept hearing that the stock R valves are the best and not to replace them

Omni valves are the same as ITR valves in that they are a 2-piece steel/inconel with a thin stem, except they are flat-faced, which raises compression a bit, but they are heavier, so you win a bit and you lose a bit. I'm a fan of omni and supertech springs and retainers, both are great quality.

i don't like crower or ferrea, because i've seen too many failures.

if i were to build a head on a rich man's budget, i'd simply send it to portflow and tell them to have their way with it, and keep N/A in mind. (full port & polish job including shave, install bronze valveguides, and full supertech valvetrain)

when you get that back, put the head back on with Golden Eagle or ARP head studs with a new oem head gasket.

throw in some JUN III's, Skunk2 St2 or 3's, or some rocket M22's or M24x's, get it tuned with some hondata S300, and you'll be sitting pretty at about 210 whp (this is with a good condition stock bottom end, a 3" short ram intake, ~310cc RC injectors, Walbro fuel pump, NGK plugs & wires, nice *** header, and free-flowing exhaust)

M24X's are too big for a stock bottom end.
