Default argon tanks... how big? need some advice/input

I own two tanks that are just a bit bigger than the ones that you rent....im not sure what size they are...but the very common size.

Im considering now switching to a larger argon tank. Im tired of having to have 6 bottles sitting around all the time or having to go to the welding store multiple times in a week...its a waste of time and gas IMO. What size do you guys have? pics? Im thinking of getting a massive tank and keep teh small ones for purging manifolds.

I don't really have any advice for a large bottle, but I'd like to see what other people have. I'm also looking for something that isn't very hard to transport, and is in the 150-200cf range.

I just have a dinky little 40 right now, and I go through a whole bottle just making a collector...

Switch to a 330cf if you have a way to move it it around. It lasts ALOT longer and is a much better value price wise.

I have two of the 330 bottles. One for the welder and the other for backpurging/backup. I would probably sell the smaller bottles to help pay for some refills on the big bottles.

This is all I got, its the cylinder standing next to the welder on the right obviosly...its on the ground and not a cart. Hope that helps. Theyre heavy but I manage them just fine by myself.

Its from mcmaster...its called "High-Temperature Polyester-Film Masking Tape". It says that its good to 450*. Its like $6 for a 1/2" 72 yard roll. Its ALOT cheaper than Kapton tape..the orange stuff thats good to 500*. It holds up pretty well and when it DOES get too hot and melts, it scrapes off easily and doesnt leave a burnt residue.

Nice...

i got back from the welding shop...I had two 150's. I traded them in for one 300cu ft. tank. It was 78 dollars to fill the 300...and the 150's are 45 a piece. so I guess I save 12 dollars per 300cu ft. Now the plan is to buy another 300 I can still lift then and move the 300's. Makes the 150's seem like cake now lol.

See if you can get them to refill the 330 for cheaper. It costs me 56 for a refill and that isnt terribly cheap. Ive seen some get em for $48.

my 330CF bottle is about $53 to refill. The next step bigger from there is one of those house sized propane tanks for ARGON, gotta get the delivery truck with the crane attached to change it out those are like 3000 CF

I've paid 25 for a 20. It's mostly labor. The bigger bottle you have the cheaper per cf you will pay. Don't the fillers have to do a leak test every time? A hydro test every 5 years?

FYI, the 150 is the largest bottle you can fit in the trunk of a compact car. Ask me how I know.

Now that I live in SC, and since I now own a TIG, I picked up a 150 cube bottle. (although they called it a 160, and they call the 80cf bottle a 90. Weirdness.)

$180 for a brand new bottle, including fill. Refills cost $27! SC is cheap!

My local shop told me they want a $150 refundable deposite, plus a $5 a month rental fee. They charge $67 to fill it up with pure Argon. It's not worth it at all if you want to keep the tank.

I bought a 275 c.f. tank for $199 empty and the refills are $57 each. The good part is that they deliver it to my house for $3. Any time I need a refill, I go to the store a day ahead, pay for it, and the next day the driver comes and picks up the empty one and gives me a full one.

You guys should ask your local shop about delivery. Chances are they deliver for a small fee.

I lease my 330, but they just charge you a one time deposit and no monthly fees. Just the fill cost.
