Some n00b questions about maintainence (gonna ship my car out of the country)
I don't have an owner's manual or anything so please bear with me
So I'm preparing to have my ITR shipped out of the country (USA) and into my "motherland" (China) where I'll be going to school and working for the next few years. So I fired up the R just to make some diagnostic checks and to make sure that it'll run for a few years without a "well equipped" Honda dealership closeby.
One thing that I noticed was that whenever I turned the steering wheel while at a stop (as to make a turn or to park) it would make a Edit: Edit: The sound is more of a metallic "metal-on-metal scraping" sound not a screeching sound, sorry about that...I realized that people aren't thinking about the same kind of sound when I say "screeching". I've been out of the country for a few months so I suppose there's something happened here in my absence. Could it be that the power steering fluid is low or dirty?
Another thing is I noticed that both the tanks that contain brake fluid are below the minimum line. I've been using Motul RBF600 and would it be best to just top off the fluid with more Motul or would any "decent" brake fluid be alright.
All in all the R is a tiny bit over 40K miles. I'm going to flush out all the fluids and so; are there any other things I should look into replacing or getting maintained? Because I would like the car to run optimally in a different country for about a least a few years...before I am able to locate a decent place to do maintainence. I don't know of any places in my immediate surroundings that have the knowledge or experience in properly maintaining a R...and I don't wanna end up driving to HK just to have basic maintainence.

I doubt that sound is your power steering. If it was, you would probably hear it just by turning the steering wheel while sitting still. Sounds more to me like brakepad to rotor contact, or bearing??
otherwise I would say if the car doesnt have any major issues right now, and you wont be beating the **** out of it in HK, Im sure there isnt anything to worry about except normal maintenance.

It only makes the sound when sitting skill or turning at low speeds (5mph or so). The car will be beat on occasionally in more rural areas lol. so I wish to have it running optimally (flame on if you must here lol)
The car will reside in Shanghai, which is 1215 kilometers or 755 miles from HK (Hong Kong) so it'll be quite a trip just to have proper maintainence done by someone qualified to. I won't have any tools or working space to do basic maintainence myself either

It might be a good idea to bring it to the dealership now while you're still in USA. If you make the drive to HK, i'll be able to help you with the maintenance. Keep your car safe, since there's not too many R in China, theives would love your car.

There was an article in EVO about Ferrari taking 612 Scaglietties on a tour of China. They had the cars suspension raised and used winter tires I believe...
And I think the locals were more interested in the 4x4 backup car than the Ferraris.

A friend of mine went to go watch it, and yes that cross country "rally" thing really did happen.
Or those horrible blue Motorcycle/Pickup truck things with side port exhausts...I see them everywhere outside of the major cities.
Believe it or not the roads are EXTREMELY well maintained most parts of China now...for those of you that haven't been there in last 2 years (including mountain roads). As for thieves, I'm not too worried. I'll be living in a nicer part of town; and since I have family members working in the government...I can feel safe that they'll get much more than a decent punishment from stealing my car if they caught
And about the brake fluid question...could I just top it off with any fluid even though there's Motul in it right now?

I would not mix syn. fluid with regular brake fluid, just buy a 1 bottle of Motul locally.
Over here in Sol Cal. there's many shop that carry Motul. (Autobacs, Discount Tires etc..)

Oh, I was hoping to be the first, I guess not then lol. I'm pretty confident that China is safer than the US especially in major cities like Shanghai and Beijing. I'll let you know what happens.

I actually have 4 bottles of Motul lying around but I'm just too cheap to open them up because they're a bit more expensive. Oh well 1 bottle down, 3 more to go...can never be too safe with "spares", because they have to last me a while when I bring them over too.

I hope there's not a leak, the main resevoir is still between the max and min lines, just that the smaller tank (for clutch I think) is almost dry. Change the pads? They're still very new Endless SSS pads, I don't think they've even worn past 1mm since I put them in last year.
Anyone else have any ideas what may be causing the metallic scraping sounds that comes from steering?

How many miles do you have on the pads? The smailler "tank" is for the clutch and shouldnt be dry, put some fluid in it. Depending on how low it is you might wanna bleed the clutch again.
If it were me......I would do all of this myself but if I coculdnt I would go to the dealership and ask for all of this to be done.
Brakes all around including flush of fluid
Oil
trans
cap, rotor, wires, plugs
Clutch fluid
re balance tires
allignment
coolant flush
valve adjustment
and maybe more just cant think right now
How long will you be over there? How many miles do plan on putting on the car?

I've realized that people are not thinkng of the same kind of sound that I am when I say "screeching" first post has been edited from this realization But just to stay safe I say at least 10k miles on the pads.
I can do most of those maintainesnce stuff that you listed myself with the tools I have so that should be ok. I plan on putting maybe like 60K+ miles once the car goes over there. I was suggested in another forum that I should do the whole maintainence that the car needs when it's at 60k miles. What does this maintainence include? (sorry for the lack of not ever receiving the owner's manual)
