Default Prestige Alarm Question (Illinois member input wanted)

aright, so about a month ago, somebody broke into my car for the 3rd time. (2nd time right in front of my house) and stole my head unit, walkie talkie, and spare headlights. Good news is, the cops caught the kids the 3rd time around. So now i should be getting some reimbursement from the kids. Anyways, w/ the money i get for that, im looking to invest in an alarm. My sister's boyfriend found an undergroundish shop that will install a Prestige alarm, remote starter, and keyless entry for 250. My sister also got her autostarter installed there for 150. She told me that the guy didn't really have any paperwork and didn't have a very professional looking shop.

1. my first question is, does this sound like a good deal?
2. will i still have a manufacturer's warranty if i get it installed at a place like this?
3. Anyone in the chicagoland area know anywhere else i can get a good alarm installed for a reasonable price?

1. No. Get a DEI or Compustar Alarm.
2. If they're not an authorized Prestige dealer, then probably not.
3. Go to Directed or Compustar's sites and contact them to find a reputable dealer.

ok, so i just called the shop that i got my swap done at, and he referred me to a friend of his that owns a shop that does alarm installs. i asked him how much it woudl cost to get a viper (thats DEI right?) alarm/autostarter/keyless installed on my 92 hatch, and he said right around 300 dollars. is this a better deal because its viper?

Better deal because most good shops warranty their installs for life, and Viper warranties their products for life as well (with the exception of the transmitter). Go for it.

Youre not even telling us which Viper alarm.

How much is it worth to you?

You can judge a shop by how clean it is. If it looks like crap, they're either very busy, or you can bet your installation is going to look like crap as well.
